Company Name ARM
Job Role Principal Information Developer
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Cambridge

Arm is seeking an experienced technical author to take a leading role in documentation for its CPU IP products. This position combines hands-on content leadership with people management, making it a strong fit for someone who enjoys shaping documentation strategy, guiding colleagues, and working closely with technical experts on advanced technology used around the world.

What you will do

  • Guide and support a small team of information developers, using an inclusive approach that helps each person develop and contribute effectively.
  • Partner with engineers, product managers, and other specialists to build a clear understanding of the technical environment and identify the areas where documentation can make the biggest difference.
  • Apply strong editorial judgement to improve the content strategy, address missing information, and ensure the documentation meets the needs of a global readership.
  • Contribute ideas for better tooling, automation, and AI-assisted workflows, focusing on practical improvements rather than technology for its own sake.
  • Help drive better ways of working and support the ongoing evolution of how the team plans, creates, and delivers content.

What Arm is looking for

  • Experience writing complex technical documentation and leading people or documentation projects.
  • A track record of influencing information developers across multiple teams and locations.
  • Confidence using tools and platforms such as DITA, Markdown, Git, Gerrit, Confluence, and Jira.
  • The ability to manage content work across several projects and release cycles.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, especially in cross-functional and multidisciplinary settings.
  • A creative, flexible, and pragmatic approach to solving problems.
  • Interest in learning about new technologies and evolving documentation practices.

Helpful additional experience

  • Experience documenting CPU IP or other semiconductor designs.
  • Understanding of hardware design concepts such as RTL, GDSII, and ASIC design principles.
  • Exposure to modern documentation pipelines and automation methods, including Markdown, Jenkins, JSON/YAML, Python, or shift-left content generation.
  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject such as Computer Science, Physics, Maths, English, Linguistics, or Law.

Team, working style, and what you can expect

You will join an inclusive team that values continuous improvement and recognises the impact of strong leadership and technical expertise. The role offers the chance to influence documentation strategy for important CPU IP products and to contribute to the communication of innovative technology that reaches a global audience. Arm also describes this as a role with flexible hybrid working, competitive rewards, and the opportunity to expand your influence in a large international organisation committed to innovation and professional growth.

Arm explains that its hybrid model is designed to support both high performance and employee wellbeing. The company aims to bring people together in person where it helps teams work effectively, while still preserving flexibility. Hybrid arrangements are set by each team based on the needs of the work, and the exact setup for this role will be shared during the application process. Arm also notes that, in some locations, legal, regulatory, tax, or other constraints may limit the flexibility available, and the company will work with candidates to find the best workable arrangement.

Pay and employment details

The advertised salary range for this position is £92,400 to £125,000 per year. The role is based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, and is listed under the Technical Writer category.
