This role sits within Google Cloud and focuses on leading complex data center construction and capital delivery work at a large scale. The position is intended for someone who can guide technically demanding, multi-disciplinary programs from planning through completion, while coordinating with a wide range of internal and external partners. What you will do
- Direct a major site-level organization responsible for data center construction and delivery, including both new construction work and capital improvement projects.
- Oversee the full project lifecycle, from developing detailed designs through construction execution, commissioning, closeout, and transfer to the operations team.
- Track and manage delivery outcomes across schedule, cost, quality, and environmental health and safety expectations.
- Confirm that customer requirements are understood and met throughout the program.
- Set up and sustain different delivery models and manage relationships with multiple vendors across global locations.
- Help shape team growth plans and participate in recruiting for roles such as project managers, field engineers, document controllers, and technical writers.
- Study and apply construction techniques for data center equipment and facilities.
- Take design ideas through to large-scale production and incorporate them into facility environments.
What you need
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, construction engineering, construction management, or another closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least five years of experience in construction program management.
- Experience with commercial contract management and procurement.
- Background in data center program management and data center technology.
- At least five years of experience managing projects across functions or teams.
- Experience working with vendors and knowledge of common design and construction industry practices.
- Hands-on experience with data center equipment and infrastructure, including switchgear, generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, control systems, security monitoring systems, and fire safety systems, along with startup and commissioning work.
- Experience with electrical and mechanical systems.
- Strong English proficiency, since Google states that English is required for all roles unless the posting says otherwise.
- Mid-level professional experience, with the ability to move work forward, solve problems, and support or mentor more junior colleagues.
