Staff Verification Engineer Overview

Company Name ARM
Job Role Staff Verification Engineer
Qualifications Bachelor’s
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Cambridge

Arm’s Solution Engineering organization develops and verifies IP for a wide range of SoC programs, combining internally created designs with third-party IP. This position is for an experienced Staff Verification Engineer who will take a leading role in verifying complex IP and subsystem work within Arm-based SoCs. The role is centered on shaping verification direction, guiding execution, and partnering closely with architecture, design, and verification colleagues to help deliver high-quality products.

What you will do

  • Take ownership of verification activities for complex IP and subsystem programs, from initial planning through final sign-off.
  • Work side by side with architects and RTL designers to understand the specification, microarchitecture, and the verification needs that follow from them.
  • Set the verification direction for the project and make sure that strategy is implemented effectively by the wider team.
  • Create and evolve verification environments, including stimulus generation, checkers, scoreboards, coverage models, and reusable verification building blocks.
  • Own the verification plan, test plan, coverage model, and the criteria used to determine when the work is complete and ready for sign-off.
  • Drive closure of functional and code coverage and ensure the verification effort is complete and robust.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of difficult design and verification issues, bringing in the right teams when cross-functional coordination is needed.
  • Provide technical direction and day-to-day guidance to verification engineers working on the project.
  • Contribute to improvements in verification methodology, reusable components, and best practices across the broader organization.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering teams located in different regions to help deliver project objectives.

What we are looking for

The role requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related subject, along with substantial practical experience in verification.

  • Extensive experience in IP, subsystem, or SoC verification.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of SystemVerilog UVM and/or other widely used verification methodologies.
  • Proven ability to build constrained-random verification environments and reusable verification components.
  • Experience defining verification strategies, verification plans, and coverage-closure approaches.
  • Good understanding of the full verification lifecycle, from requirements analysis through sign-off and delivery.
  • Experience leading verification work on complex projects or major functional areas.
  • Understanding of SoC verification, including verification flows that are driven by software.
  • Ability to script using Python, Perl, or a similar language.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical leadership abilities.

Additional experience that would be valuable

  • Experience with Arm-based designs or Arm system architectures.
  • Experience with AMBA protocols such as CHI, AXI, AHB, and APB.
  • Experience with JTAG, SWD, or TAP-based debug infrastructure.
  • Experience with clock domain crossing, reset domain crossing, and power-aware verification.
  • Exposure to low-power design techniques and UPF/CPF methodologies.
  • Experience with DFT concepts such as scan and MBIST.
  • Experience with formal verification techniques.
  • Experience helping to build verification methodologies, frameworks, or reusable infrastructure used across multiple projects.
