This is an early-career developmental opportunity for someone who is newly qualified in a trade or close to finishing an apprenticeship and wants to build a career in data center facilities work. The role sits within Google’s Data Center team and supports the physical infrastructure that keeps the company’s global computing environment running. The work is hands-on, structured, and closely supervised, with a strong emphasis on learning the technical foundations needed to progress in the role.
In this position, you will help operate, monitor, and support the physical conditions of the facilities that house Google’s computing infrastructure. The environment includes systems that manage heating and cooling, water and air flow, power supply, generators, uninterruptible power supply equipment, electrical distribution, and control and monitoring systems. You will also help inspect, maintain, and repair a range of data center systems, including piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical components.
The program is designed for people who are still developing their professional capability. You will work under direct, day-to-day guidance from managers or more experienced technicians, shadowing them as they inspect systems, carry out maintenance, and complete repairs. As you learn, you will be expected to ask questions about processes, tools, maintenance methods, and operating procedures so you can build the technical knowledge required to grow in the role.
The broader AI and Infrastructure organization is described as a team that is helping redefine what is possible by delivering AI and infrastructure at very large scale with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and speed. The team supports Googlers, Google Cloud customers, and users around the world, and works across areas such as TPU development, Vertex AI, global networking, data center operations, and systems research.

- Complete the learning modules that form part of the developmental program.
- Contribute to the team through careful, timely, and high-quality work.
- Build your understanding of data center operations by asking questions about maintenance, tools, processes, and procedures.
- Help with site tours and assess whether systems are functioning as expected.
- Support the daily operation and monitoring of facility systems that keep the data center environment stable and reliable.
- Take part in activities that strengthen the workplace culture and support ongoing operations.
What the employer is looking for

- Interest in HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems, or some knowledge of these areas.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with others.
- A genuine interest in building a future career in data center operations.
- A strong sense of responsibility and a solid work ethic, especially around completing tasks on time.
- Comfort working in an environment where English proficiency is required for all roles unless the posting says otherwise.
