AWS is looking for a sales leader to help shape and grow a newly created startup-focused function in the UK and Ireland region. The role sits within AWS Global Sales and is aimed at driving cloud adoption among startup prospects and customers. The team’s mission is to help customers innovate and scale by combining tailored support, strong technology expertise, and a customer-first approach. This position is intended for someone who is excited by the opportunity to build something new, work closely with senior stakeholders, and contribute to the growth of startups using AWS.

The business context for this role is the rapid pace of innovation in the startup ecosystem, where modern technologies such as machine learning are helping companies disrupt established industries. AWS is positioning itself as a key enabler of that progress, and this role will play an important part in supporting that momentum across the UKI market and the wider EMEA segment.

What you will do

  • Build and lead a strong, diverse team of Central Sales Representatives focused on startup accounts and prospects.
  • Work alongside specialist and technical colleagues to deliver account management tailored to the needs of startup customers.
  • Develop and coach team members so they can grow in their careers and improve their performance over time.
  • Support the team with sales planning, pipeline discipline, deal coaching, operational execution, and broader sales strategy.
  • Help increase adoption and consumption of both existing and new AWS services across the startup customer base.
  • Coordinate with Area and segment leadership to turn priorities into practical plans for execution at the area, segment, and account level.
  • Accept stretch responsibilities that support the wider function and the EMEA segment.
  • Contribute to the creation and scaling of a new function that is being built from the ground up.

What AWS is looking for

  • Experience leading sales teams in technology-related sales or a comparable business development setting.
  • A minimum of 10 years in sales, including at least 5 years in a people management role.
  • Ability to coach a sales team on pipeline management, deal support, and effective selling practices.
  • Strong track record of working with a broad mix of customer stakeholders, including founders, senior executives, and technical teams.
  • Comfort taking on additional responsibilities that support the function and the EMEA segment.
  • Preferred background in engineering, computer science, MIS, or a similar technical field, along with a management qualification such as an MBA.
  • Preferred experience in the startup ecosystem and with cloud-based solutions.
  • Preferred experience launching or building new teams, products, or business functions.
  • Applicants with non-traditional career paths or alternative experience are encouraged to apply, even if they do not meet every preferred criterion.
