Capgemini Invent is looking for an experienced Managing Consultant or Senior Manager to join its Energy Retail team within Energy Transition & Utilities. The role sits in a consulting environment focused on helping clients navigate major change through a combination of strategy, creativity, science, data and technology. The team works with organisations facing complex challenges in the energy sector and aims to deliver practical, innovative transformation that creates measurable business value.
In this position, you would take a leading role in shaping and delivering large-scale transformation programmes for energy retail clients. The work spans the full journey from strategy through execution, with a strong emphasis on being a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders, coordinating cross-functional teams and ensuring that solutions are both inventive and workable in real operating environments. The role also includes helping the practice grow commercially and contributing to the wider development of the Energy & Utilities business.
What you would do
- Lead complex transformation programmes for large organisations, guiding work from initial strategy and planning through to delivery and implementation.
- Act as a trusted partner to client leaders, influencing senior stakeholders and helping them make decisions that support long-term change.
- Coordinate and lead cross-functional teams to ensure delivery stays aligned to client goals and produces practical outcomes.
- Help organisations respond to disruption by designing solutions that improve resilience and prepare them for future operating models.
- Work with clients on major transformation topics such as redesigning customer journeys, creating change roadmaps, aligning business and technology change, and launching AI-enabled and agentic services.
- Focus on improving operational performance, lowering costs, enhancing customer experience and strengthening competitiveness in the market.
- Support clients across traditional energy retail topics including B2C and B2B market challenges, billing, CRM, debt management, operational improvement and cost optimisation.
- Identify and pursue business development opportunities, including proactive client improvement ideas, proposal creation, RFP responses, proposition development, client pitches and event participation.
- Contribute to practice growth by helping shape thought leadership, supporting recruitment, improving operations, organising team activities and developing colleagues.
- Take an active, hands-on role in delivery rather than operating only at a high level, working closely with teams to solve client problems.
- Spot opportunities to use emerging technologies such as generative AI and agentic AI to speed up delivery and improve business results.
Experience and background needed
- You should have at least 8 years of experience in consulting or in a relevant industry role.
- You need strong knowledge of the GB retail energy market, ideally gained through work with or for energy retail suppliers and/or code managers.
- You should bring familiarity with the organisations, programmes and relationships relevant to this market area.
- The role expects someone who has delivered change in a practical, hands-on way and is comfortable staying close to the detail when solving client issues.
- You should have experience managing teams and several workstreams at once in complex delivery environments.
- Experience supporting practice development, building teams and mentoring junior people is important.
- You should have delivered technology-led transformation in energy retail, with experience across one or more of the following areas: customer experience strategy, customer journey transformation, CRM and billing platforms, operational and service improvement, or managing industry change.
- Experience designing customer experience strategies that improve engagement, satisfaction and alignment with business objectives is required.
- You should be able to map end-to-end customer journeys, identify pain points and opportunities, assess and quantify improvement options, and deliver changes in an agile way.
- Experience with CRM and billing platforms is important, including re-platforming and defining integrated end-to-end solutions across business, customer and operational domains.
- You should have experience improving operations through new ways of working, operating model transformation and organisation design that supports growth and regulatory compliance.
- The role also calls for experience helping clients respond to significant market or regulatory change while maintaining continuity and adapting quickly.
- Capability with generative and agentic AI is valued, especially where it can be applied to energy retail challenges and used to identify new opportunities for Capgemini.
- You should also have business development experience and be able to generate new business through existing relationships, wider company connections and your own network.
What the role offers
- Access to training and certifications that support your development and align with changing business needs.
- A flexible benefits package that can be adapted to suit your personal circumstances.
- A variable pay component linked to grade and to company and individual performance.
- Hybrid working as a standard approach, with flexible working arrangements available to all UK employees.
- Support for wellbeing through trained Mental Health Champions across the business.
- Access to wellbeing applications such as Thrive and Peppy.
- An inclusive recruitment process, including an interview guarantee for candidates who declare a disability and meet the minimum essential criteria.
- Recognition as a Disability Confident Employer at Level 2.
- The chance to contribute to work that supports the energy transition, sustainability and positive social impact.
- Opportunity to join a large global business and technology transformation organisation with deep sector expertise and a broad partner ecosystem.
Working arrangement and location
The role is based from one of the following offices: London, Manchester or Glasgow. Although there is an office base, you must be fully flexible about where assignments take place, as the work may require time away from home at short notice.
