Amazon Leo is a project focused on building a constellation of low-Earth-orbit satellites designed to deliver fast, low-latency broadband service to communities that are currently unserved or underserved around the world. The legal team supporting this initiative is looking for an experienced lawyer who can work directly with the business and help guide the programme through a wide range of legal issues.
This role sits within the Amazon Leo Legal team and is intended for someone who can operate as a practical, commercially minded adviser. The successful candidate will be embedded with the Leo teams, partnering closely with business leaders and helping them move quickly while still managing legal and regulatory risk in a sensible way.
What you will do
- Act as a legal partner to the Amazon Leo organisation and work closely with the satellite and communications teams on their business needs.
- Support leaders across the business by spotting legal issues early and helping them find solutions that are workable from both a legal and commercial perspective.
- Design and apply processes that reduce risk without slowing the business down or limiting its flexibility.
- Provide advice in a way that helps the team make decisions confidently, even when the situation is complex or not fully defined.
- Contribute as part of an embedded legal function that supports the wider Leo initiative.
- Be willing to travel occasionally within the UK and internationally as required by the role.
What the role requires
- You must hold a licence to practise law in Europe, the United States, or another common-law jurisdiction.
- You need to be a qualified lawyer with at least two years of post-qualification experience.
- You should have a background in legal work and hands-on experience with commercial contracts and agreements.
- Experience gained in both a law firm/corporate practice environment and an in-house legal setting is preferred.
- You should have experience advising senior executives or similarly senior stakeholders.
- You must be comfortable working independently and dealing directly with colleagues across legal and business functions at all levels.
- A strong interest in technology and enthusiasm for working in a challenging, fast-moving environment are important.
- You need to show good judgment and the ability to stay effective when circumstances are ambiguous.
- The position may involve access to export-controlled information under EAR and ITAR rules, so employment is subject to successful export-control screening and, where required, the approval of any necessary export licences or authorisations based on nationality, citizenship, and other relevant factors.
