CNC Turning Specialist Overview
| Company Name | Dexory |
| Job Role | CNC Turning Specialist |
| Qualifications | Not Specified |
| Category | IT Jobs |
| Job Type | Full Time |
| Location | Oxford |
This role is for an experienced CNC turning specialist who can take precision parts from design information through to finished production on advanced Fanuc-controlled lathes. The position focuses on manufacturing components for robotics, with responsibility for programming, setting, proving, and running complex turning processes that use live tooling, twin-spindle capability, and other advanced machining features. You will be part of a team working on new components, process refinement, and the ongoing development of automated and unattended CNC production.
The work is based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, and the role centres on high-quality precision manufacturing for robotic systems. You will collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing colleagues to turn engineering drawings or CAD models into accurate parts, while also helping improve how those parts are made. The company is looking for someone who can combine strong hands-on machining ability with a practical mindset for process improvement and reliable production.
What you will do
- Set up, program, and operate Fanuc-controlled CNC turning centres to produce precision components.
- Convert engineering drawings, CAD models, and manufacturing requirements into finished parts.
- Develop and prove machining strategies for twin-spindle work, live tooling, and multi-axis turning.
- Create CNC programs and refine them using Fanuc controls, Fusion 360 CAM, and verification software.
- Choose the right cutting tools, inserts, holders, workholding, and machining parameters for each job.
- Produce prototypes, small batches, and repeat production parts to the required standard.
- Carry out complete machine setups, including tooling, workholding, datum setting, and tool offset management.
- Inspect first-off parts and monitor production quality using suitable measuring instruments.
- Make sure finished components meet dimensional accuracy, geometric tolerance, and surface finish requirements.
- Work with engineering teams to provide practical design-for-manufacture feedback on new parts.
- Look for ways to reduce setup time, shorten cycle time, extend tool life, improve process reliability, and use material more efficiently.
- Investigate and solve issues involving programming, tooling, dimensions, and machining performance.
- Maintain clear records for setups, tooling, and inspection results.
- Support probing, tool-life monitoring, standardised setups, machine tending, and lights-out manufacturing approaches.
- Help with other CNC machining work when needed.
Machines and technical environment
The main equipment for this position includes DN Solutions turning centres, specifically the PUMA 2600SYB, PUMA 1300TT SSYB, and PUMA 2100TT SSYB. The role involves working with advanced turning technology and supporting the continued development of automated CNC production methods.
Experience and skills needed
- Strong practical experience programming, setting, and operating Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes.
- Direct experience with twin-spindle CNC turning.
- Experience using live or driven tooling.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T.
- Good knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, workholding, speeds, and feeds.
- Experience making and checking precision-machined components.
- Solid understanding of G-code and CNC program structure.
- Ability to perform first-off and in-process inspection using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, thread gauges, and similar tools.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a practical approach to solving machining problems.
- A strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Experience that would be especially useful
- Y-axis turning and milling work.
- Twin-turret lathes and synchronised turret programming.
- Experience with DN Solutions or Doosan PUMA machines.
- Use of Fusion 360 CAM or other offline programming tools.
- Sub-spindle part transfer, simultaneous machining, and cycle-time optimisation.
- Automated machining methods such as probing, bar feeding, robotic tending, or unattended production.
- High-mix precision manufacturing with low to medium volumes.
- Work in robotics, automation, motorsport, aerospace, or another advanced engineering sector.
