What you will do

  • Take the lead on troubleshooting critical systems, including commissioning work, repairs, and replacements, while working with little to no direct supervision and maintaining strong standards for quality, output, and timeliness.
  • Run critical plant equipment when authorized by the facilities manager, ensuring safe and reliable operation of essential infrastructure.
  • Support global facilities initiatives by contributing to programs related to electrical systems, computerized maintenance management systems, building management systems, energy reduction efforts, training, and thermography.
  • Help maintain the performance of data center facilities by supporting the operation, monitoring, inspection, maintenance, and repair of key systems and components.
  • Assist in keeping environmental and safety standards consistently met, identifying issues quickly and carrying out repairs to reduce downtime and recovery time during abnormal conditions or emergencies.
  • Contribute to efforts that improve efficiency and lower operating costs while supporting highly energy-efficient electrical and HVAC operations across low-, medium-, and high-voltage systems.
  • Work as part of Google’s Technical Infrastructure organization, helping keep the systems behind Google’s products available, fast, and dependable for users around the world.

What you need

  • An associate degree, trade-school certification, certified technical training in a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 7 years of electrical experience in an industrial or commercial environment, such as work involving electrical testing equipment or electrical distribution.
  • Ability to carry out physical tasks that include lifting, carrying, or moving equipment up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Comfort using required safety equipment and access tools such as ladders, step stools, limited-weight-bearing work platforms, and personal protective equipment, in line with safety and ergonomic guidance.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and participate in rotating shift patterns.
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification, or an equivalent NVQ Level 3 qualification.
  • A valid ECS Gold Card.
  • Current certification under the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
  • Strongly preferred: HVAP or LVAP certification.
  • Preferred: 7 years of experience maintaining electrical distribution systems, or experience in a construction/technical environment, or a related discipline.
  • Preferred: experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
  • Knowledge of data center electrical systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, and PDU/PMM units.
  • Understanding of PUE and WUE, along with the energy-efficiency considerations involved in plant operations.
  • English proficiency is required for all roles at Google unless the posting states otherwise.
