Kpler is looking for a data engineer to join its engineering organization and contribute to a product focused on the European power market. The role sits within the Commodities engineering area and is part of a team that works on large-scale datasets, data normalization and distribution, and proprietary products such as real-time availability calculations and market forecasts across short, medium, and long-term horizons.

What you will do

  • Improve the existing pipelines that collect data from external providers.
  • Help broaden the product’s coverage into additional markets and geographic regions.
  • Contribute to product development by adding new features and enhancing the overall offering.
  • Design and improve monitoring, alerting, and dashboarding solutions so the team can better observe system behavior and data flow.
  • Support the efficiency and responsiveness of the API that delivers data to end users.
  • Work closely with data scientists and market specialists who bring deep expertise in the domain.
  • Help the team create growth plans that are ambitious while still being sustainable over time.

What the company is looking for

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or an equivalent background.
  • Roughly 3 to 5 years of experience as a software engineer with a strong emphasis on data-related work.
  • Strong Python skills; experience with FastAPI is a plus.
  • Experience using PostgreSQL or a similar data storage technology.
  • Ability to build and consume REST APIs.
  • Comfort working with Git, code review processes, and Agile ways of working.
  • Knowledge of performance tuning and caching approaches.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate asynchronously with colleagues in other countries.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning the business domain.
  • Strong written and spoken English.

Nice-to-have experience

  • Experience with AWS or another cloud provider, including Terraform.
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with hexagonal architecture and medallion architecture.
  • Experience using observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, or similar platforms.
