A well-established technology consultancy is seeking to add an FPGA Engineer to its digital hardware team. The role is based in Cambridgeshire, England, and sits within a multidisciplinary engineering environment that handles a diverse portfolio of technically demanding work. Projects span wireless communications, aerospace systems, and next-generation networking technologies, giving the successful candidate exposure to a broad range of real-world engineering challenges.
The position offers the chance to work in small, highly capable teams where you will contribute across the full lifecycle of development, from early concept work through to complete system delivery. You will be involved in architecture discussions, FPGA implementation, and hardware integration, while also helping to shape technical decisions on active projects.
What you will do
- Support the consultancy’s digital hardware capability by contributing to FPGA-focused engineering work across multiple programmes.
- Take part in system architecture activities and help define how FPGA solutions are structured and delivered.
- Develop and verify RTL for FPGA implementations, ensuring designs meet functional and performance goals.
- Carry out FPGA implementation work and support the delivery of high-performance hardware solutions.
- Assist with hardware integration tasks so that FPGA designs work effectively within larger systems.
- Work on projects that move from initial concept development through to fully realised products or systems.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers, RF specialists, DSP engineers, and systems engineers.
- Contribute to solving complex technical problems in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Help influence technical direction on projects by bringing FPGA expertise into design discussions.
What the employer is looking for
- Proven experience in FPGA design and verification, or a background in ASIC design and verification.
- Strong RTL coding skills using Verilog or SystemVerilog.
- Practical experience with FPGA development tools such as Vivado or Quartus.
- Knowledge of timing closure and the ability to work through related implementation challenges.
- Understanding of system-level design and high-speed electronics.
- A solid academic background in Engineering, Physics, or a similar subject area.
- Experience with DSP or RF systems would be beneficial.
- Previous mentoring experience would also be viewed positively.
