This opportunity is for a mechanical design engineer to join a growing team in Oxford, where the work focuses on advanced technology and the creation of innovative products from the earliest concept stage through to production. The position is presented as a chance to contribute to the full development cycle, including design, prototyping, testing, validation, and release into manufacture.
What you will do
- Design compact and robust mechanical systems for products, prototypes, and test equipment.
- Develop practical mechanical concepts that meet targets for performance, reliability, and ease of manufacture.
- Collaborate with teams from other disciplines to build and integrate system prototypes.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and other design documentation needed to support development and manufacture.
- Perform structural, thermal, and materials analysis to improve overall system performance and reliability.
- Support prototype assembly, testing, validation, and iterative design improvements based on results.
- Contribute to taking technologies from initial concept work through prototyping and testing and onward into production.
What the employer is looking for
- Previous experience in mechanical design and development.
- A strong understanding of core mechanical engineering principles, including material selection and manufacturing processes.
- Confidence using CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or similar software.
- Experience with engineering analysis and simulation tools, such as ANSYS or equivalent packages.
- Background in designing precision mechanical systems and assemblies.
- Experience with optical or photonics-related products would be an advantage.
