This role sits within Amazonâs operations organisation and is focused on keeping the flow of work moving smoothly across shifts. It is a practical, on-the-floor leadership position where you help make sure items are processed and sent to customers on time. As an Operations Lead or Supervisor, you will see how the different parts of the operation connect, support the team during the shift, and help ensure that the site runs safely, efficiently, and to plan.
What you will do
- Act as the main point of contact for team members during your shift and provide day-to-day guidance as work progresses.
- Observe workflow performance, monitor activity on site, and share important shift information with frontline management so performance stays on track across shifts.
- Coach, support, and train employees so they can deliver strong service and complete their tasks effectively.
- Supervise team members in their daily work and step in with direction when you are the most senior person on shift.
- Support the Shift or Area Manager with projects that improve processes, strengthen safety, and increase employee engagement.
- Work alongside other departments to resolve recurring issues and support key performance areas.
- Analyse data and operational metrics to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
- Help run pre-shift meetings, reinforce the dayâs priorities, and make sure procedures are being followed.
- Check that safety rules and quality processes are being followed throughout the shift.
- Escalate problems to your manager when needed and help maintain smooth operations.
- Contribute to shift planning so the site has the right staffing levels during peak periods.
What the role looks like day to day
You will be based at one of Amazonâs operational sites and will support the Shift or Area Manager in delivering the shift plan. That includes helping prepare the team before work starts, keeping an eye on procedures and standards during the shift, and making sure the team stays aligned to the priority plan for the day. In some shifts you may be the most senior person present, so you will need to give clear direction and keep work moving. You will also help plan staffing so the operation is properly resourced when demand is highest.
About the team
This position is part of Amazon Extra Large, the business that handles heavy and bulky products such as furniture and large household appliances. The team manages the full service journey, from supply chain fulfilment through to delivery and returns. A key difference in this area is the higher level of customer care involved: the service can include unpacking, assembling, installing, and, where needed, removing old items. The team is focused on safety, productivity, and innovation, and is working to improve how customers buy and receive large goods.
The AMXL organisation has ambitious plans to grow its specialist fulfilment centres and delivery stations across the UK and Europe. People in delivery stations may work some night shifts, although most of the team works during the day. The wider team includes colleagues from operations, supply chain, business intelligence, and programme management, all contributing to the growth of this part of the business.
What you need
- Professional experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Advanced English communication skills, both written and spoken, at approximately C1 level on the CEFR scale.
- Relevant experience using data analytics and performance measures to identify problems.
- Preferred experience in stakeholder management, including building and maintaining professional relationships.
- Preferred experience in an operational environment such as logistics, retail, hospitality, or customer service.
- Preferred upper-intermediate English ability.
- Comfort working in a hands-on operational setting and using the tools and systems that support operations.
- Ability to support and supervise others while keeping a shift organised and productive.
- Interest in improving processes, supporting a safe workplace, and using data to drive better outcomes.
