This role sits at the centre of Amazon’s fulfilment and dispatch operation, where the focus is on getting customer orders out efficiently and on time. The position is part of the company’s operations leadership structure and is intended for someone who can bring teams together, raise standards across safety, quality, and productivity, and help shape the future of site performance. The successful candidate will lead managers, oversee shift activity, and play a major role in driving operational excellence at a fulfilment centre.

What you will do

  • Lead, support, and develop a group of Area Managers so they can perform strongly and grow in their roles.
  • Take responsibility for operational shifts, handling issues as they come up and making sure the site continues to perform well.
  • Review how each shift performs against the relevant business targets, then introduce actions that improve efficiency and overall operational results.
  • Work in close partnership with support functions such as HR, Finance, Health and Safety, and Security to keep operations aligned and effective.
  • Plan and implement initiatives across the site that improve operational performance and help the fulfilment centre run more effectively.
  • Act as a key connection point between finance, safety, and operations integration teams, ensuring communication and coordination across the business.
  • Use performance and risk information to understand current results, identify issues, and prepare for changes in demand.
  • Spend time mentoring and coaching your team so they can become stronger managers and leaders themselves.
  • Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement by helping the site adopt better ways of working.
  • Help maintain the broader operational mission of processing and dispatching customer orders accurately and on schedule.

What a typical day looks like

You will be based at one of Amazon’s operational sites and will spend much of your time leading shifts and staying close to the day-to-day running of the fulfilment centre. Your day is likely to include meetings with different parts of the business, detailed reviews of site performance and risk data, and forward planning for periods of higher or lower demand. Coaching and mentoring will also be a regular part of the role, as you support your team and help them develop into effective leaders.

What Amazon is looking for

  • Experience leading people and managing relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong command of written and spoken English, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and concise written communication.
  • Experience using data to guide or influence business decisions.
  • Experience gained in a global supply chain, manufacturing, production or procurement, distribution, logistics, or another related operational setting.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment and manage shift-based operational challenges.
  • Confidence analysing performance information and turning it into practical improvements.
  • Preferred experience with Six Sigma methods and Lean techniques.
  • Capability to collaborate across departments while keeping attention on safety, quality, productivity, and service.
  • Leadership skills that include coaching, mentoring, and developing others.
  • Experience level suited to someone already working in operations management rather than someone new to the field.
