This opportunity is for a senior embedded software engineer to join a growing Bristol-based business that develops technologies in computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The role sits within work on a next-generation virtual reality system and offers the chance to contribute to advanced, high-impact engineering in a fast-moving environment.
What you will do
- Design and develop low-level embedded software for a new virtual reality platform.
- Create and support drivers and core infrastructure for embedded systems built around ARM microcontrollers.
- Write software for pre-emptive, multithreaded real-time operating systems or embedded Linux platforms, ensuring the system can meet strict timing requirements.
- Work across embedded C and C++ development, with Python also used where appropriate.
- Take ownership of technical tasks and help drive projects forward from concept through delivery.
- Adapt quickly to unfamiliar technical areas and remain effective when working under pressure.
What the employer is looking for
- Substantial experience in embedded software engineering, with the advert indicating a background of around 3 to 15 years.
- Strong capability in embedded C and C++.
- Practical experience with Python.
- Experience with RTOS environments and/or embedded Linux.
- Knowledge of ARM microcontroller-based development.
- Ability to build software that operates reliably in real-time, multithreaded systems.
- A proactive approach, with the confidence to move work forward independently.
- Good learning agility and the ability to perform well in challenging situations.
Package and working style
- Salary up to £75,000, depending on experience.
