This opportunity is with an early-stage artificial intelligence and machine learning company working across robotics, maritime, and rotorcraft. The team is building advanced perception systems that transform environmental data into actionable insight, with applications in emerging technologies. The work is highly technical, the standards are very high, and the focus is firmly on mission-critical outcomes rather than compromise.
The position is well suited to a machine learning engineer or computer vision specialist who wants to join a company at a formative stage and help shape its impact through direct technical contribution. The role is based in Oxfordshire and follows a hybrid working arrangement.
What you will do
- Develop and refine perception systems that convert complex environmental inputs into useful, real-world intelligence.
- Apply machine learning and computer vision expertise to challenging problems in robotics and related sectors.
- Take responsibility for model experimentation, training, assessment, and optimisation.
- Work with real-world datasets and improve model performance in practical settings.
- Support the creation and evolution of machine learning pipelines, from early experimentation through to deployment.
- Evaluate technical trade-offs such as processing speed, predictive accuracy, and robustness in operational conditions.
- Contribute in a hands-on way within a small, high-ownership team where your work will have visible influence on the company’s direction.
What the employer is looking for
- Strong experience in machine learning and/or computer vision.
- A PhD is preferred, ideally in machine learning, computer vision, mathematics, physics, or another closely related field.
- Clear evidence of rigorous analytical thinking, demonstrated through research, publications, or technically demanding projects.
- Practical experience training, evaluating, and improving models using real-world data.
- Familiarity with building or supporting machine learning pipelines that progress from experimentation to production.
- Good judgement around engineering trade-offs, including the balance between speed, accuracy, and robustness.
- Comfort working in a hands-on environment with a high level of responsibility and ownership.
- An interest in joining an early-stage business where individual contribution can strongly shape company outcomes.
What is on offer
- A chance to join an early-stage company with significant growth potential.
- A very competitive salary package.
- Equity in the business.
- Substantial technical ownership and the opportunity to influence key decisions.
- The chance to work on demanding, real-world vision problems with meaningful impact.
- A collaborative team environment with strong performance standards.
