Company Name ARM
Job Role Staff Hardware AI Engineer

Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time

Arm is seeking a Staff Hardware AI Engineer to help transform how its hardware design and verification teams work by introducing AI-enabled automation. The role is focused on improving engineering productivity, reducing cycle time, and making day-to-day work more efficient through practical AI tools and workflows. This position sits within the PE AI team, which concentrates on boosting engineering effectiveness through smart technology and works across both hardware and software projects to embed AI into existing workflows.

What you will do

  • Build AI-driven automation that helps hardware design and verification engineers complete their work faster and with less friction.
  • Develop and refine solutions that use OpenAI Codex-style capabilities and related tool integrations to support simulation workflows, log analysis, and code review or refactoring assistance.
  • Work directly with Arm engineering teams to understand the real problems they face, then turn those discussions into clear, actionable requirements.
  • Create fast prototypes and evaluate AI tools for electronic design automation to test whether they are practical and to measure the impact they could have.
  • Help drive adoption of new tools and methods by running demonstrations and workshops, producing onboarding guidance, and removing obstacles that make adoption difficult.
  • Collaborate with architects and other stakeholders to introduce AI-powered tools and techniques across the engineering organization at scale.
  • Contribute hands-on to the development of automation for hardware design and verification rather than only advising from a distance.

About the team

You will join the PE AI team, a group dedicated to improving engineering productivity through intelligent technology. The team works across hardware and software initiatives and partners with other groups to bring AI into everyday engineering workflows.

What Arm is looking for

  • Substantial hands-on experience with hardware design or verification methodology.
  • Deep understanding of RTL design, the relationship between RTL, testbenches, and verification IP, and practical experience debugging compile and simulation issues.
  • Experience with at least one major EDA vendor toolset.
  • Practical experience using AI to automate engineering work, including prompt design and refinement, structured outputs, and tool usage.
  • A strong problem-solving approach, with the ability to quickly identify why something is failing in a real environment and help move issues toward resolution across teams.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to convert ambiguous conversations into clear requirements and executable plans.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across engineering teams and communicate effectively with technical stakeholders.
  • Preferred: strong scripting skills in at least one language, with Python specifically preferred.
  • Preferred: experience integrating and orchestrating tools, such as parsing logs and reports, running flows, and collecting results.
  • Preferred: background in an application engineer role or another internal customer-facing role where user needs were translated into working solutions.
  • Preferred: familiarity with agentic workflows, skills-based automation, and tool-calling patterns.

What success looks like

Within six to twelve months, success in this role means Arm’s hardware engineers can clearly point to time saved in their workflows, less time spent debugging and triaging, and measurable improvements in product quality. The team should be able to show evidence of better cycle time, more effective bug discovery, and possible PPA improvements. Prototypes should either demonstrate value quickly or be stopped early with clear lessons learned, and adoption should grow because the tools remove friction and deliver obvious value.

Working arrangements and location

The role is posted for Cambridge in the United Kingdom, with additional listed locations in Sophia Antipolis, France and Trondheim, Norway. Arm uses a hybrid working model designed to support both strong performance and personal wellbeing. The company values in-person collaboration while also giving teams flexibility to define the hybrid pattern that best fits their work. The exact arrangement for this role will be discussed during the application process. In some cases, flexibility may be limited by local legal, regulatory, tax, or other considerations, and Arm will work with candidates to find the best possible solution.

Pay and relocation

Arm lists salary ranges for this role by country: United Kingdom, France, and Norway. The posting also states that no relocation package is available for this position.

Visa sponsorship

If the successful candidate requires skilled worker sponsorship, Arm will pay the employer-side sponsorship costs. However, the candidate is responsible for all personal immigration-related expenses, including the visa application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge.

Benefits and culture

Arm describes a broad benefits offering that supports health and wellness, work-life success, financial rewards, and development and support. The company emphasizes a collaborative environment, mutual respect, inclusion, and equal opportunity. Arm also highlights its commitment to building extraordinary teams and creating a workplace where people can thrive professionally and personally.

Recruitment support and equal opportunity

Candidates who need adjustments or accommodations during the hiring process can contact Arm by email for support. Examples of help mentioned include breaks between interviews, documents being read aloud, and office accessibility support. Arm states that accommodation requests are handled confidentially and that information is only shared as needed to provide the support requested. The company also says it is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
