This role sits within Google Global Infrastructure and focuses on the fiber and network systems that support the company\u00e2\u0080\u0099s worldwide services. The team brings together capacity infrastructure engineering, network infrastructure engineering, and fiber and capacity delivery into one organization. Its purpose is to deliver resilient long-haul and metro fiber assets, along with the data center network space needed to support Google\u00e2\u0080\u0099s continued expansion and AI leadership. The work is highly global in scope and sits at the point where technical depth, operational scale, and executive decision-making meet.<\/p>\n

As a technical program leader, you will guide complex engineering initiatives from early planning through execution and completion. The role calls for someone who can keep the broader strategy in view while also understanding the detailed engineering issues that affect delivery. You will work with internal customers to shape requirements, manage schedules, surface and track risks, and communicate progress and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders at all levels. The position also involves leading engineering-focused programs and managing a team of technical program managers.<\/p>\n

The role is based in London, UK, and includes travel of roughly one quarter of the time, primarily to Google data centers around the world as needed.<\/p>\n

What you will do<\/h3>\n

  • Set and coordinate the program strategy for fiber and network infrastructure across EMEA and APAC, with the goal of improving consistency and capturing scale benefits.<\/li>\n
  • Connect technical requirements to business priorities by offering advanced analysis and recommendations that support executive decisions.<\/li>\n
  • Own requirements for the Google Global Network, including the design needs for data center infrastructure such as space, power, and cooling, and help define global standards for new product deployment.<\/li>\n
  • Handle complex worldwide relationships and dependencies across the program.<\/li>\n
  • Partner with design engineering firms, carriers, internal engineering teams, and executive leaders to solve major network growth and delivery challenges.<\/li>\n
  • Build and improve operating systems and processes that uncover innovative ways to deliver projects more effectively.<\/li>\n
  • Track and mitigate risks while improving lead time, delivery predictability, and cost performance.<\/li>\n
  • Lead a global group of technical program managers and support their development.<\/li>\n
  • Create a team environment that encourages learning and growth, with skills that can be applied across multiple technical areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • A bachelor\u00e2\u0080\u0099s degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.<\/li>\n
    • At least 10 years of technical program management experience, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure programs.<\/li>\n
    • At least 5 years of experience leading people with direct reports.<\/li>\n
    • Hands-on experience with fiber optic network design and deployment, including outside plant work, and with data center infrastructure, including inside plant work.<\/li>\n
    • Demonstrated ability to own outcomes, make decisions, solve ambiguous problems, and influence stakeholders.<\/li>\n
    • Preferred: 10 years of experience across multiple disciplines, including network, fiber, electrical, and mechanical or cooling systems.<\/li>\n
    • Preferred: experience working with carriers and stakeholders in telecommunications and data center environments across EMEA and APAC.<\/li>\n
    • Preferred: a strong history of new product initiatives, especially defining standards for infrastructure solutions that can be deployed broadly.<\/li>\n
    • Preferred: excellent communication skills and the ability to build consensus among senior executives while navigating uncertainty.<\/li>\n
    • English fluency is required for all roles unless the posting says otherwise.<\/li>\n
    • Ability to travel around 25% of the time, mainly to Google data centers worldwide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
