This role sits within Site Reliability Engineering for Google Cloud and focuses on the Cloud Incident Response Team. The position is centered on keeping large-scale, highly distributed systems reliable, resilient, and responsive, with a strong emphasis on incident response, operational excellence, and building the tooling and processes needed to support critical cloud services.<\/p>\n

As part of this team, you will help manage the most serious incidents across Google Cloud Platform. The work involves coordinating response efforts, reducing impact, and helping restore service quickly when major issues occur. You will also contribute to the systems and workflows that make incident handling more effective, including tools that improve visibility into the health of Google Cloud, help detect widespread problems sooner, and strengthen communication with customers, stakeholders, and customer-facing teams.<\/p>\n

  • Own and improve the full lifecycle of services, from initial design through deployment, operation, and continuous refinement.<\/li>\n
  • Support services before launch by advising on architecture, developing software platforms and frameworks, planning for capacity, and taking part in launch reviews.<\/li>\n
  • Keep production services healthy after launch by monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.<\/li>\n
  • Design and build internal systems and tooling that help the Cloud Incident Response Team operate more effectively.<\/li>\n
  • Improve the team\u00e2\u0080\u0099s ability to understand the state of Google Cloud, detect large-scale incidents, and communicate clearly with customers, stakeholders, and customer-facing teams.<\/li>\n
  • Participate in an on-call rotation that supports critical incident response for Google Cloud Platform.<\/li>\n
  • Respond to, coordinate, mitigate, and help resolve major incidents affecting Google Cloud Platform.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Site Reliability Engineering combines software engineering and systems engineering to create and operate large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. This role is intended for someone who can contribute technically, help coordinate complex responses, and build the operational foundations that make incident handling faster and more effective.<\/p>\n

    What you need<\/h3>\n

    • A bachelor\u00e2\u0080\u0099s degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.<\/li>\n
    • At least five years of experience developing software in one or more programming languages.<\/li>\n
    • At least three years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems at large scale.<\/li>\n
    • At least two years of experience leading projects and providing technical direction.<\/li>\n
    • Hands-on experience dealing with production incidents as part of an on-call schedule.<\/li>\n
    • A master\u00e2\u0080\u0099s degree in computer science or engineering is considered an advantage.<\/li>\n
    • Experience with telemetry systems, incident management, and risk management is also preferred.<\/li>\n
    • Ability to work effectively across team and organizational boundaries.<\/li>\n
    • Strong problem-solving skills, a systematic approach to technical issues, effective communication, and a strong sense of initiative.<\/li>\n
    • Comfort working in a mid-level role that includes both independent contribution and mentoring of less experienced engineers.<\/li>\n
