The work is centered in London and involves building the technical foundations that allow research to move quickly from concept to reproducible experiments and, ultimately, to impactful results.<\/p>\n<h3>What you will do<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Create new algorithms and software frameworks for multi-agent learning, with a strong emphasis on making them efficient and scalable when using JIT compilation, autograd, and XLA within JAX.<\/li>\n<li>Develop and support large simulation environments and complete research pipelines that can execute experiments on DeepMind\u00e2\u0080\u0099s high-end infrastructure, including very large TPU pod systems.<\/li>\n<li>Work side by side with research scientists to convert mathematical ideas and research questions into dependable code and experiments that can be repeated and validated.<\/li>\n<li>Take the lead on engineering decisions for demanding research projects, define and uphold strong standards for code quality and maintainability, and help mentor less experienced engineers.<\/li>\n<li>Improve the full research workflow from start to finish, including data handling, model training, and analysis of outputs, so that discovery happens more quickly.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute engineering expertise that helps the team deliver robust systems in support of advanced AI research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What you need<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A bachelor\u00e2\u0080\u0099s degree in computer science, another relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.<\/li>\n<li>At least five years of software development experience in Python or C++.<\/li>\n<li>Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as JAX or PyTorch.<\/li>\n<li>Experience using scientific and data analysis libraries such as numpy, pandas, and matplotlib.<\/li>\n<li>A PhD focused on machine learning, reinforcement learning, or multi-agent systems is desirable.<\/li>\n<li>Experience training large-scale models on accelerators such as TPUs or GPUs in distributed environments is desirable.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with language models, including agentic harness design, memory retrieval, or fine-tuning, is desirable.<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of leading complex software projects, along with enthusiasm for enabling breakthrough research through engineering, is desirable.<\/li>\n<li>Strong capability in building and optimizing advanced systems in JAX is desirable.<\/li>\n<li>Strong knowledge of multi-agent reinforcement learning, algorithmic game theory, or computational economics is desirable.<\/li>\n<li>English proficiency is required for all roles unless the posting says otherwise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Team and environment<\/h3>\n<p>You would be joining a research-focused engineering environment where software engineers are embedded across the organization to help launch experiments quickly and at scale.
