The work is centered on designing and improving data center mechanical systems in a fast-moving environment that values efficiency, reliability, safety, and scalability. The team operates with a research-and-development mindset, testing ideas, refining approaches, and turning technical improvements into real-world infrastructure changes.

As a senior engineer in this area, you would help define the direction of data center mechanical systems at the product and system level, contribute to research and development efforts, and support the creation of operations and maintenance procedures for the systems and processes you help design. You would also perform engineering analysis and evaluate design methods for data center equipment and facilities, making sure proposed solutions are technically sound and practical to build and operate.

The position is part of the Data Center Delivery and Engineering team, which brings together experts in civil structure and architecture, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, field engineering, construction project management, water and air systems, commissioning, and cost and project controls. Together, this group designs, schedules, constructs, commissions, and closes out data centers in a way that is efficient, safe, and scalable.

Google describes the broader technical infrastructure organization as the group that builds and maintains the systems behind its online products. The work includes developing and operating data centers and supporting the next generation of Google platforms. Engineers in this environment are expected to think creatively, improve systems continuously, and communicate technical recommendations to senior leaders while helping drive implementation with facilities teams.

What you will do

Set the system-level approach for data center mechanical infrastructure, including architecture decisions and research and development work, and help create operating and maintenance procedures for the related systems and processes.

Perform engineering analysis and investigate design approaches and methods for data center equipment and facilities.

Confirm that designs and installations meet expected requirements, including cooling performance, structural considerations, operational needs, and other relevant constraints.

Provide technical leadership for projects within the mechanical discipline, helping improve design, scope, schedule, quality, commissioning, and safety, while also sharing improvement ideas with central partner teams.

Offer mechanical leadership in the field and help resolve critical issues when they arise.

What Google is looking for

A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.

At least five years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments.

Direct experience with mechanical infrastructure.

Preferred background includes a master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or another relevant field, or a Professional Engineer license.

Preferred experience in estimating, mechanical design, operation, and commissioning of mission-critical data center mechanical equipment.

Preferred experience designing, constructing, and commissioning mechanical cooling plants, fire suppression systems, fuel oil systems, domestic water systems, and sanitary sewer systems.

Preferred experience designing complex modular building-scale assemblies, including knowledge of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.

Preferred knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles for medium-scale production design, structural beams and elements, and international building codes.

Preferred operational knowledge of construction safety procedures.

Ability to work in English, which Google says is required for all roles unless the posting explicitly says otherwise.

Experience level aligned to a mid-level role, with expectations to drive progress, solve problems, and mentor less experienced team members while applying deeper expertise.

Working arrangement

The position is remote-eligible and based in the United Kingdom. Google also notes that its hybrid workplace includes remote roles.

Additional information

Google states that it is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and says it is committed to building a workforce that reflects the users it serves. The company says it provides equal employment opportunity regardless of protected characteristics and refers applicants to its EEO policy, workplace discrimination rights information, Belonging at Google, and How we hire resources.

If you need an accommodation during the application process, Google says you can request support through its accommodations form for applicants.

Google also states that it does not accept agency resumes and asks recruitment agencies not to forward resumes to its jobs alias, employees, or other locations. It says it is not responsible for fees related to unsolicited resumes.

The posting includes Google’s standard equity notice, explaining that any equity grant is discretionary, subject to Alphabet approval and the relevant stock plan and grant agreement, and that such grants are not guaranteed and do not affect statutory payments.

Google also notes that English proficiency is required for all roles unless the job posting says otherwise.

Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s

Visa Sponsorship Promising

https://www.google.com/about/careers/applications/jobs/results/117826322524185286-senior-data-center-engineer-mechanical-engineering?location=United%20Kingdom&page=6
["post-1670","job_listing","type-job_listing","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail
["GET
