The team works on technology that will appear in future Android releases and aims to shape the capabilities that mobile customers will rely on in the years ahead. The group is international, inclusive, and based on Arm’s Cambridge campus.

The role sits within a team that develops the driver layer responsible for implementing widely used GPU compute APIs such as OpenCL. This software enables massively parallel execution of general-purpose code on Mali GPUs and supports demanding workloads including machine learning, image processing, computer vision, and video encoding and decoding. Because mobile devices are tightly constrained, the work is about delivering advanced functionality while also improving reliability and efficiency.

What you will do

Contribute across the full software development process, from design through implementation, testing, review, and documentation.

Add new driver features and improve the supporting infrastructure that keeps the software evolving with new GPU generations.

Test, inspect, and analyse how the software behaves and performs, then use those findings to guide improvements.

Take part in design discussions and review the work of other engineers to help maintain quality and consistency.

Work with the team on investigation, estimation, and planning so that tasks are well understood and delivered effectively.

Keep the existing codebase healthy by fixing defects and carrying out other quality assurance work.

Help reinforce Arm’s core values and behaviours in day-to-day work.

Support performance analysis, optimisation, and benchmark-related infrastructure work, along with other engineering tasks that arise in the driver team.

Work in a Linux-based environment using Arm targets such as models, FPGAs, and silicon from partner companies, covering multiple generations of the architecture.

Collaborate with engineering teams across Arm’s European design centres on technologies for current and future Mali GPUs.

Team and working environment

The team is described as multifaceted, collaborative, and highly motivated. As part of an Agile group, you will have the opportunity to contribute in different areas of the work rather than being limited to a single narrow task. Engineers develop their expertise through internal and external training, as well as through peer code review. The role is based in Cambridge, which is presented as a lively campus environment in the UK’s technology centre.

Arm also explains that its hybrid working model is intended to balance strong performance with personal wellbeing. The company values face-to-face collaboration while still allowing flexibility, and the exact pattern for this role will be agreed with the team based on the work involved. In some situations, flexibility may be constrained by legal, regulatory, tax, or other local considerations.

Skills and experience needed

Strong programming ability in C and C++.

Understanding of embedded hardware architectures and standard software engineering development practices.

Practical, organised, and analytical problem-solving and debugging skills.

Good communication and teamwork skills, with a self-motivated and results-oriented approach.

Strong written and spoken English.

Experience with OpenCL, CUDA, or Vulkan would be helpful.

Ability to script in Python and Bash is desirable.

Knowledge of optimisation, profiling, and instrumentation techniques is an advantage.

Experience developing for Linux or Android systems is useful.

Familiarity with data analysis and statistics would be beneficial.

Exposure to machine learning is relevant to the customer use cases for this role.

Understanding of compiler internals, especially LLVM, would be useful even though this is not a compiler-focused position.

Comfort using Git and issue or bug tracking tools is desirable.

Experience producing design and test specifications, and building and maintaining test suites, is beneficial.

Automation experience, including some exposure to Docker, is a plus.

Experience in driver development or HAL development is desirable.

Previous software development experience in a commercial environment would be helpful.

What Arm offers

Arm says this is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to build expertise in a supportive and collaborative setting. You would have the chance to learn about advanced GPU technologies, contribute to Mali GPU product lines, and apply your engineering skills to technologies that reach millions of devices.

The wider rewards package highlighted on the page includes support for health and wellbeing, flexibility to help people balance work and life, financial rewards beyond base pay, and development and support resources that help people grow professionally and personally.

The salary range shown for the position is £73,500 to £99,500 per year.

Additional information

No relocation assistance is available for this position.

If Skilled Worker sponsorship is needed, Arm will pay the employer-side sponsorship costs. The candidate, however, must cover the personal immigration-related costs, including the visa application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge.

Arm also states that it is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.

Recruitment support

If you need an adjustment or accommodation during the hiring process, you can contact Arm at accommodations@arm.com. Arm says accommodation requests are handled confidentially and may include support such as breaks between interviews, documents being read aloud, or help with office accessibility.

To apply, use the application link on the job page. The posting also includes a save-job option and a way to view the location details and Arm’s hiring process information.

Degree Requirement: Not Specified

Visa Sponsorship Promising

["post-1676","job_listing","type-job_listing","status-publish
["GET
