This opportunity is with a long-established, independent veterinary practice that has been serving its local community for more than a century. The team is looking to add an experienced veterinary surgeon who either has a mixed-practice background with a strong small-animal interest or prefers to work in small animal practice only. The practice is known for being supportive, well organised and team-focused, with vets and nurses who work closely together and take pride in delivering excellent clinical care.<\/p>\n

The role is based in Newcastle upon Tyne, in the North East of England, an area that offers a strong balance between work and lifestyle. What the role involves<\/h3>\n

  • Working as part of a large, experienced clinical team in a respected independent practice.<\/li>\n
  • Providing high-quality veterinary care across a mixed caseload, with the main emphasis on small animals.<\/li>\n
  • For the mixed role, the caseload is expected to be around 80% small animal, 10% equine and 10% farm work.<\/li>\n
  • There is also scope for the position to be offered as small-animal-only if that is the preferred fit.<\/li>\n
  • No sole-charge on-call is required.<\/li>\n
  • On-call duties include one night per week, with support from another vet.<\/li>\n
  • The weekend rota consists of one full weekend on-call in every six weeks.<\/li>\n
  • When a full weekend is worked, the following week is free from on-call duties and a Friday or Monday is also given off to create a long weekend.<\/li>\n
  • One Saturday morning is worked in every three, with one of those Saturdays falling within the full weekend rota cycle.<\/li>\n
  • Bank holiday cover is shared evenly across the team.<\/li>\n
  • Part-time working is available for suitable candidates, ideally from a minimum of two full days per week plus rota participation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Pay and package<\/h3>\n

      • There is a six-month review, with a salary increase if probation is completed successfully.<\/li>\n
      • A 12-month review follows, with another salary increase and bonus-related earnings.<\/li>\n
      • After the first year, annual salary reviews continue.<\/li>\n

      • RCVS and VDS fees are covered.<\/li>\n
