Arup is looking for an experienced Transport Modeller to join its Transport Consulting team, a collaborative group at the centre of the organisation\u00e2\u0080\u0099s transport planning and modelling work. The team operates across the UK and internationally and works closely with multidisciplinary colleagues and the wider global transport modelling community. The role sits within a setting that supports a broad mix of complex, high-profile transport projects aimed at helping create more sustainable and resilient transport networks.<\/p>\n

This opportunity is aimed at transport modelling professionals who want to take on challenging schemes, apply data-led and innovative approaches, and continue developing their strategic modelling capability. The position covers the full modelling workflow, from early data analysis and model development through to forecasting, scenario testing, scheme appraisal, reporting, visualisation, and engagement with clients and project teams. There will also be opportunities to contribute to bids and to support work across the UK and internationally when required.<\/p>\n

What you will do<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Build and develop strategic transport models that support the assessment of transport schemes and planning decisions.<\/li>\n
  • Use data, modelling tools, and analytical methods to address real transport challenges on complex and high-profile projects.<\/li>\n
  • Work with senior transport modellers and project managers to contribute to both live projects and bid submissions.<\/li>\n
  • Forecast future transport conditions and test different mitigation or intervention scenarios to understand likely outcomes.<\/li>\n
  • Assess proposed schemes and help determine their transport impacts and effectiveness.<\/li>\n
  • Take responsibility for tasks across the modelling lifecycle, including data handling, model development, calibration, validation, forecasting, reporting, and visual presentation of results.<\/li>\n
  • Prepare technical notes and written outputs that clearly explain modelling assumptions, methods, and findings.<\/li>\n
  • Engage with clients and project stakeholders as part of the delivery process.<\/li>\n
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and geographies, including supporting projects in other parts of the UK and overseas when needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    What the team is looking for<\/h3>\n

    • Practical experience in transport modelling, ideally covering highways, public transport, and\/or multimodal models.<\/li>\n
    • Proven use of one or more of the following modelling platforms: VISUM, SATURN, CUBE, or MATSim.<\/li>\n
    • Experience carrying out model development, calibration, and validation work.<\/li>\n
    • A strong grasp of TAG requirements, forecasting approaches, and scenario testing.<\/li>\n
    • Excellent analytical skills and confidence working with transport data.<\/li>\n
    • Ability to produce clear reports, technical notes, and other written material to a high standard.<\/li>\n
    • Strong presentation skills and attention to detail in how work is communicated.<\/li>\n
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both on your own initiative and as part of a multidisciplinary team.<\/li>\n
    • A desire to grow further as a strategic modeller and expand your technical toolkit within a supportive environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
