This is an opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to join a creative and collaborative building engineering team in London, working on technically demanding projects with a strong design focus. The role is suited to someone who enjoys working across disciplines, contributing to the shape and performance of buildings, and taking responsibility for mechanical design from early concept through to completion.<\/p>\n

The work is closely connected to the architectural and engineering design of both new-build and existing developments. You would be involved in projects with leading architects and developers in the UK and internationally, helping to deliver mechanical systems that support excellent building performance, sustainability goals, and low-carbon outcomes. The team works across a broad mix of sectors, including arts and culture, commercial and mixed-use developments, science and industry, heritage and refurbishment, and low- and zero-carbon buildings. What you would do<\/h3>\n

  • Take a leading role in shaping the sustainable performance of projects, working closely with architects and other team members to align building form with design principles, energy strategy, and sustainability objectives.<\/li>\n
  • Develop mechanical design concepts that reflect current approaches to low-energy design, natural ventilation, sustainability, and net-zero carbon delivery.<\/li>\n
  • Support the full design process for mechanical systems, from initial concept and calculations through modelling, detailed design, tender documentation, construction, handover, and post-completion evaluation.<\/li>\n
  • Work with clients and collaborators to help them achieve the intended performance of their buildings and to strengthen long-term working relationships.<\/li>\n
  • Carry out design analysis and coordinate with the wider project team to optimise building systems and improve overall performance.<\/li>\n
  • Design mechanical building services, including air conditioning, heating, and both natural and mechanical ventilation systems.<\/li>\n
  • Manage the preparation of models, drawings, reports, and specifications required for project delivery.<\/li>\n
  • Coordinate your work with engineers from other disciplines, including in-house specialists, to ensure the design is fully integrated.<\/li>\n

    • Practical experience in mechanical building services design and a strong understanding of how mechanical systems are developed for buildings.<\/li>\n
    • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, ideally at master\u00e2\u0080\u0099s level.<\/li>\n
    • Chartered status, or active progress toward becoming chartered.<\/li>\n
    • Flexibility and a willingness to develop your skills further in order to solve analytical problems involving energy use, temperatures, and related engineering parameters.<\/li>\n
    • Preferred experience in thermal modelling, including work connected to Part L and TM54 assessments.<\/li>\n
    • Ability to oversee the production of building energy models using widely used tools such as IES, TAS, EnergyPlus, or DesignBuilder.<\/li>\n
    • Preferred experience in leading design elements and coordinating small engineering teams on projects.<\/li>\n
    • Strong technical and design capability, with the confidence to work collaboratively in multi-professional teams on large UK and international projects.<\/li>\n
