Location<\/strong><\/td>\n| London<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n This role sits within Arup\u00e2\u0080\u0099s land quality team, which is part of the Specialist Environmental Services area inside the Climate and Sustainability Services group. The team works on contaminated land and related environmental matters for a broad mix of development projects, bringing together expertise in ground contamination, waste and materials management, environmental permitting, due diligence, and water quality. The position is based in London and is intended for an experienced, motivated environmental consultant who can lead project delivery and contribute to the wider growth of the team.<\/p>\n What you will do<\/h3>\n\n- Lead the technical delivery of contaminated land assessments across projects at different stages and levels of complexity.<\/li>\n
- Take ownership of project delivery within the land quality team and help ensure work is completed to a high professional standard.<\/li>\n
- Support and manage junior team members who are contributing to contaminated land assessment work.<\/li>\n
- Produce environmental reporting, including sections on ground conditions and contamination for environmental statements.<\/li>\n
- Coordinate ground investigation work, working with investigation contractors and keeping client teams informed and involved.<\/li>\n
- Handle project management duties such as planning programmes, tracking progress, and controlling budgets.<\/li>\n
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary project teams and collaborate with specialists from environmental, planning, engineering, and urban design backgrounds.<\/li>\n
- Communicate directly with clients and maintain effective working relationships throughout the life of a project.<\/li>\n
- Engage with stakeholders and support negotiation where needed to move projects forward.<\/li>\n
- Contribute to the team\u00e2\u0080\u0099s business development and marketing activity.<\/li>\n
- Help prepare bids and presentations for prospective work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
What the team is looking for<\/h3>\n\n- A good honours degree in a relevant discipline.<\/li>\n
- Membership of a suitable professional institute, such as CIWEM, IES, the Geological Society of London, or the Royal Society of Chemistry, together with chartered status or a clear path toward it.<\/li>\n
- Practical experience in a commercial consultancy environment, including client liaison, managing time and schedules, quality assurance, and financial or budget control.<\/li>\n
- A solid understanding of the full contaminated land assessment process, from early land acquisition and desk study work through investigation, assessment, remediation, and final verification.<\/li>\n
- Broader knowledge of brownfield development topics, with at least a basic understanding of areas such as waste classification, management of excavated materials and the DoWCoP, environmental permitting, and Environmental Impact Assessment.<\/li>\n
- Additional technical awareness in one or more specialist subjects, such as asbestos in soils, hydrogeology, DQRA, remediation techniques, ground gas or vapour assessment, or radiologically contaminated land.<\/li>\n
- The ability to work confidently in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting and to balance technical delivery with client and project needs.<\/li>\n
- An energetic, enthusiastic approach and the ability to contribute to both project work and team development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
