Arup is seeking a senior pavement engineering professional to join its UKIMEA region team in Nottingham. This is a lead-level opportunity for someone who combines strong technical pavement design capability with team leadership, project management, client engagement, and strategic thinking. The role sits within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment and is focused on delivering pavement solutions for highways, airfields, and site development schemes.<\/p>\n

What you will do<\/h3>\n

  • Lead pavement engineering assignments with a strong emphasis on project management, team coordination, and delivery oversight.<\/li>\n
  • Provide design leadership and technical input for pavement work across highways, airfield, and site development projects.<\/li>\n
  • Work closely with internal specialists and external clients to ensure design work is aligned, coordinated, and delivered effectively.<\/li>\n
  • Develop and sustain strong working relationships with clients and other stakeholders, both inside and outside the organisation.<\/li>\n
  • Take responsibility for the management of pavement projects and for ensuring design outputs are delivered to the required standard.<\/li>\n

    What Arup is looking for<\/h3>\n

    • A civil engineering degree and a clear enthusiasm for pavement engineering.<\/li>\n
    • Extensive previous experience in pavement design for infrastructure projects at senior or associate level.<\/li>\n
    • Certification as a Pavement Engineer in accordance with CD 226.<\/li>\n
    • Membership of a relevant professional institution such as ICE or CIHT.<\/li>\n
    • Hands-on experience with analytical pavement design, pavement investigation, evaluation methods, and pavement strengthening design.<\/li>\n
    • Experience contributing to or developing pavement standards, together with awareness of new pavement innovations.<\/li>\n
    • Strong knowledge of pavement design principles across flexible, rigid, and composite pavement types.<\/li>\n
    • The ability to select suitable design strategies and pavement options for different budget scenarios, covering both new construction and maintenance work.<\/li>\n
    • Proven industry experience gained through overseeing work on site.<\/li>\n
    • The ability to take ownership of pavement project management and design delivery.<\/li>\n
    • Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills.<\/li>\n
    • A proven record of working successfully in a team environment.<\/li>\n
    • Commercial, financial, and contractual experience would be beneficial.<\/li>\n
