This opportunity is with a rapidly expanding semiconductor company building advanced computing platforms for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and other demanding data-centric workloads. The business has strong financial backing and is growing its engineering footprint in both Cambridge and Bristol. The role sits within the physical design team and offers the chance to help shape the implementation of next-generation silicon products.<\/p>\n

The position is a hands-on backend design role focused on converting complex RTL into high-quality silicon. You will work across the full digital physical design flow, helping ensure that implementations achieve the required performance, power, and area goals at advanced technology nodes. In addition to day-to-day design work, you will have the opportunity to improve internal methods, contribute to automation, and play a part in technical innovation.<\/p>\n

What you will do<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Own and drive multiple stages of the physical implementation flow, beginning with floorplanning and continuing through place-and-route to final sign-off.<\/li>\n
  • Tune designs to meet aggressive power, performance, and area objectives while working to challenging delivery schedules.<\/li>\n
  • Support the creation of new implementation flows and automation that improve productivity across the team.<\/li>\n
  • Work in close partnership with RTL, verification, packaging, and product engineering teams to keep the backend flow aligned with broader product requirements.<\/li>\n
  • Address complex technical problems directly and develop practical, well-considered solutions that can be relied on in advanced semiconductor projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar discipline.<\/li>\n
    • Strong background in digital backend or physical design, ideally with experience at 7nm or below.<\/li>\n
    • Practical understanding of timing closure, clock tree implementation, physical verification, and sign-off procedures.<\/li>\n
    • Good scripting or programming skills, with Python and Tcl specifically mentioned as useful examples.<\/li>\n
    • The ability to work confidently on complex physical design tasks and contribute to process and methodology improvements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
