A global software and engineering technology business is growing its software engineering team in Cambridge. The work sits on a major public-facing web and cloud platform that is used extensively around the world by engineering industries and communities. This position is focused on backend engineering for new development initiatives, with an emphasis on building scalable services and contributing to projects where your work can have a visible impact.<\/p>\n

What you will be doing<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Work within cross-functional teams to design, build, and support scalable backend web services.<\/li>\n
  • Contribute to a variety of new development projects for a large web and cloud platform with international reach.<\/li>\n
  • Help shape service design and implementation using a schema-first, top-down approach where needed.<\/li>\n
  • Partner with engineers and non-technical colleagues to understand business requirements, operational workflows, and product goals, then turn those into practical technical solutions.<\/li>\n
  • Take responsibility for the quality and direction of the services you help deliver, showing strong product ownership.<\/li>\n
  • Support backend architecture and system integration work across distributed and cloud-based environments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Experience and skills needed<\/h3>\n
      \n
    • You should bring at least five years of proven experience in web service development and systems integration.<\/li>\n
    • You need a solid grasp of software architecture principles and the design patterns commonly used in web services.<\/li>\n
    • Experience with relational database design and development is required.<\/li>\n
    • You should be comfortable analysing complex business processes and system flows, and solving problems in a structured way.<\/li>\n
    • You must be able to communicate clearly with both technical team members and stakeholders outside engineering.<\/li>\n
    • A strong sense of ownership for the product and the services you build is important.<\/li>\n
    • Advanced backend development experience in Go and\/or Python is required.<\/li>\n
    • Experience with GraphQL would be a strong advantage.<\/li>\n
    • You should have worked with relational databases such as MySQL.<\/li>\n
    • Experience with distributed data platforms such as AWS Redshift or Snowflake is also relevant.<\/li>\n
    • Knowledge of distributed systems is expected.<\/li>\n
    • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP is needed.<\/li>\n
    • You should be familiar with containerised development.<\/li>\n
    • Experience with CI\/CD practices is required.<\/li>\n
    • Hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes is expected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Working arrangement<\/h3>\n

      This is an onsite position based in Cambridge. You will need to be comfortable commuting to the office five days a week. The offices are described as modern and well equipped, and parking is available on site.<\/p>\n
