This opportunity is with a specialist communications technology business in West Cambridgeshire that operates a hybrid working model. The engineering group is highly focused and technically advanced, with complete in-house responsibility for hardware, software and overall system architecture. Its work centres on cellular and RF platforms used in mission-critical environments, and the team is now seeking an embedded software engineer to help build and refine the low-level software that powers these systems.<\/p>\n

The position sits within a team developing next-generation cellular technology across multiple standards. The successful engineer will contribute to firmware and protocol stack work that spans the embedded layer all the way up through cellular communications functionality. The role is especially suited to someone who enjoys deep technical problem-solving across embedded software, DSP, RF and wireless systems.<\/p>\n

What you will be doing<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Writing and maintaining low-level embedded firmware for sophisticated cellular and RF products.<\/li>\n
  • Supporting development across the full embedded software chain, including RF driver work, DSP-related algorithm implementation and cellular protocol stack layers.<\/li>\n
  • Taking part in protocol stack implementation work across layers L1 to L3.<\/li>\n
  • Helping build systems that operate across several generations of cellular technology, including 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G.<\/li>\n
  • Contributing to high-performance engineering work in a specialist environment where hardware, software and system design are all handled internally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Strong practical experience developing embedded firmware in C.<\/li>\n
    • Background working with cellular technologies, ideally across the 2G to 5G range, or a solid understanding of 3GPP standards.<\/li>\n
    • Good knowledge of DSP and signal processing concepts.<\/li>\n
    • Familiarity with low-level hardware communication and control interfaces such as SPI, I2C, GPIO and DMA.<\/li>\n
    • Ideally, some experience with protocol stack development at L1 to L3 or with RF systems.<\/li>\n
    • An engineer who is comfortable working on technically demanding cellular and DSP-focused systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
