Graphcore is looking for an experienced Engineering Lab Infrastructure Lead to help build and run the technical foundation behind its engineering laboratories in Bristol, UK. The successful candidate will initially be very hands-on, working directly with engineering teams to keep lab environments reliable, manage infrastructure, automate routine work, and resolve complex technical issues. Over time, the role will also involve helping to shape and lead a small team, defining the processes, standards, and service approach that will support the wider organisation for the long term.<\/p>\n

You will work closely with silicon, hardware, systems, and software engineers, so the role has a direct influence on how quickly and effectively Graphcore can develop products. What you will do<\/h3>\n

  • Take responsibility for the development of engineering lab infrastructure and the support services that keep it running effectively.<\/li>\n
  • Serve as the technical point of escalation for difficult lab and infrastructure incidents, diagnosing and resolving complex issues.<\/li>\n
  • Administer Linux-based servers and the engineering environments that depend on them.<\/li>\n
  • Support hardware bring-up, validation, and testing activities for new technologies and platforms.<\/li>\n
  • Improve day-to-day operations by designing better processes, introducing useful tooling, and increasing automation.<\/li>\n
  • Maintain and enhance the lab\u00e2\u0080\u0099s network, storage, and compute infrastructure so it remains reliable and scalable.<\/li>\n
  • Manage infrastructure using configuration management tools and infrastructure-as-code practices.<\/li>\n
  • Build strong working relationships with engineering teams and keep up with their changing technical needs.<\/li>\n
  • Develop documentation, knowledge resources, and operating standards that make the support function easier to run and scale.<\/li>\n
  • As the function grows, hire, mentor, and lead a small team of Lab Infrastructure Engineers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Substantial Linux systems administration experience, ideally across Debian and\/or Red Hat environments.<\/li>\n
    • Experience supporting engineering, research, laboratory, HPC, or data-centre environments.<\/li>\n
    • Solid networking knowledge, including routing, VLANs, VPNs, and troubleshooting difficult connectivity problems.<\/li>\n
    • Experience with physical infrastructure such as servers, rack-mounted equipment, BMCs, firmware, and out-of-band management.<\/li>\n
    • Hands-on use of configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or similar platforms.<\/li>\n
    • Understanding of authentication and access-management systems such as LDAP, RADIUS, or Active Directory integrations.<\/li>\n
    • A methodical troubleshooting style and the ability to work through technical problems in a structured way.<\/li>\n
    • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach to internal support.<\/li>\n
    • Comfort with a role that is initially highly hands-on and later expands into team leadership and service ownership.<\/li>\n
    • Useful additional experience with container technologies such as Docker, containerd, or Kubernetes.<\/li>\n
    • Useful additional experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, or OpenTelemetry.<\/li>\n

    • Useful additional experience with CI\/CD tooling such as GitLab or GitHub Actions.<\/li>\n
