This role is a hands-on leadership position focused on automation, logistics, and solving complex problems at very large scale. The team is building foundational systems that support Amazon\u00e2\u0080\u0099s global fulfilment network, and the work sits at the intersection of data, engineering, and operational decision-making. In this position, you will lead a group of engineers and help shape services that model fulfilment network capabilities and constraints so Amazon can optimise how an item moves from customer click to delivery.<\/p>\n

The systems owned by this team are intended to improve the customer experience by enabling faster delivery promises and to support fulfilment planning and execution in ways that reduce transportation cost. What you will do<\/h3>\n

  • Manage and guide a team made up of junior and mid-level business intelligence engineers, data engineers, and software development engineers.<\/li>\n
  • Set up the team\u00e2\u0080\u0099s working model by defining responsibilities, operating practices, and opportunities for professional development.<\/li>\n
  • Design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure needed to answer business questions effectively.<\/li>\n
  • Apply data engineering best practices to create reliable, scalable, and useful data solutions.<\/li>\n
  • Shape the team\u00e2\u0080\u0099s data engineering approach by using AWS services to improve accessibility, redundancy, data integrity, cost efficiency, and storage usage.<\/li>\n
  • Work closely with data engineers, BI engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and product or program managers to understand requirements and turn them into sound technical and business decisions.<\/li>\n
  • Partner with other technology and data engineering teams to pull data from many sources, transform it, and load it into usable systems using AWS data technologies.<\/li>\n
  • Own the technical design and implementation of the data platform and related infrastructure.<\/li>\n
  • Develop and manage processes for data auditing, quality assurance, and reconciliation in partnership with stakeholders.<\/li>\n
  • Support the creation of reporting, attribution, and forecasting capabilities that help stakeholders understand what happened, why it happened, and what is likely to happen next.<\/li>\n

The team works across the supply chain to optimise the network while keeping complexity low and reducing variation so operations remain streamlined and outcomes stay consistent. The group provides comprehensive reporting, useful attribution, and accurate forecasting so stakeholders can understand past performance, the reasons behind it, and future expectations.<\/p>\n

    The team takes ownership of results rather than simply owning technology. It also places strong emphasis on auditing outputs through metrics and experiments, ensuring accuracy and holding dependent teams responsible for the quality of the data they provide.<\/p>\n

    Required experience and qualifications<\/h3>\n
      \n
    • Background in data warehouse architecture, data modelling, infrastructure components, ETL or ELT, reporting and analytics tools, data structures, and hands-on SQL development.<\/li>\n
    • Experience using statistical or machine learning tools or languages such as R, Python, Weka, SAS, Matlab, or similar software.<\/li>\n
    • Direct experience working with business stakeholders and translating between business needs and data requirements.<\/li>\n
    • Experience leading or influencing BI strategy within a team or organisation.<\/li>\n
    • Experience working with very large-scale data warehousing environments.<\/li>\n
    • Experience managing a data team or business intelligence team.<\/li>\n
    • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns across the full software, hardware, and network development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations.<\/li>\n
    • Strong team leadership, communication, and analytical skills.<\/li>\n
    • Ability to manage expectations across stakeholders and deliver against a strategic plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
