This role is part of a structured teaching programme and is intended to help deliver a strong student experience, mainly at undergraduate level. The postholder will contribute teaching, assessment, and administrative support that helps students understand core course content and identify the key learning points from teaching materials.<\/p>\n

What the role involves<\/h3>\n

  • Helping to plan, organise, and deliver undergraduate teaching.<\/li>\n
  • Taking responsibility for a range of teaching and assessment tasks for undergraduate subjects.<\/li>\n
  • Handling course administration within set deadlines, including communicating information, marking, assessing work, and providing constructive feedback in a timely way.<\/li>\n
  • Supporting the creation and improvement of teaching resources so that they match the intended learning outcomes and are delivered effectively.<\/li>\n
  • Using learning technologies to improve teaching, organisation, feedback, and assessment, including blended and online delivery through tools such as Moodle and other IT-based materials.<\/li>\n
  • Applying specialist subject knowledge in a way that supports different learners, promotes inclusion, and is grounded in evidence-based teaching practice.<\/li>\n
  • Taking part in assessment activities across a variety of methods, including oral assessment where required, and giving feedback that is useful, prompt, and appropriate to student needs.<\/li>\n
  • Assisting with the supervision of student projects, dissertations, and practical work, including guidance on methods, skills, and techniques that help students transfer knowledge into practice.<\/li>\n
  • Responding appropriately to a wide range of learner support needs.<\/li>\n
  • Engaging in professional development activities as needed.<\/li>\n
  • Completing any other reasonable tasks assigned by the Head of School.<\/li>\n

    Who can apply<\/h3>\n

    What you need<\/h3>\n

    • An honours degree at SCQF Level 10 in a relevant subject area, or equivalent expertise in a related field, along with an understanding of the principles behind teaching, learning, and assessment.<\/li>\n
    • Current registration and active progress toward a PhD (MPhil\/PhD) or a PGT qualification in a relevant discipline.<\/li>\n
    • Strong, expert-level knowledge of the subject area.<\/li>\n
    • Experience teaching or supporting undergraduate or postgraduate learners in person, online, or through distance learning.<\/li>\n
    • Experience mentoring, supervising, or teaching students in practical or active learning settings.<\/li>\n
    • Relevant administrative experience, such as supporting students or managing course-related administration.<\/li>\n
    • Very good communication and presentation skills.<\/li>\n
    • Confidence using IT systems and software that support teaching and learning.<\/li>\n
    • Ability to work on your own initiative and also contribute effectively as part of a team.<\/li>\n
    • Proven ability to work to deadlines.<\/li>\n
    • A commitment to the University\u00e2\u0080\u0099s stated values and expected professional behaviours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
