The role is focused on designing and delivering secure, scalable, cloud-enabled data platforms that treat data as a strategic business asset. This is a permanent position based in London, and the working model is hybrid, with time split between company offices, client locations, and home. Full-time home working is not permitted.<\/p>\n What you will do<\/h3>\n\n- Take ownership of solution design for the bank\u00e2\u0080\u0099s EDL and ODS platforms running on Cloudera in AWS, leading the data design aspect of delivery.<\/li>\n
- Design end-to-end data lake and distributed data solutions that meet business requirements within a broader implementation programme.<\/li>\n
- Contribute to solution planning by supporting estimation work and identifying technical assumptions, risks, and issues early.<\/li>\n
- Review architecture and design outputs created by other data solution architects within the delivery factory.<\/li>\n
- Help define and improve best practices for data architecture, while also spotting areas where the factory needs technical or process improvement.<\/li>\n
- Create design artefacts either on your own or as part of a wider team.<\/li>\n
- Work closely with business teams and programme stakeholders to clarify and refine data requirements.<\/li>\n
- Present designs to the bank\u00e2\u0080\u0099s Architecture Review Board when needed.<\/li>\n
- Collaborate with stakeholders in the Group Data Office and across the wider business.<\/li>\n
- Support solution architects outside the factory on change initiatives and help maintain alignment across teams.<\/li>\n
- Ensure all solutions follow strategic architecture principles and the organisation\u00e2\u0080\u0099s overall direction.<\/li>\n
- Review technical team designs to confirm they remain consistent with the approved solution architecture.<\/li>\n
- Help the delivery lead break the solution into smaller increments that can be delivered iteratively in sprints.<\/li>\n
- Support other engineering activities in the factory, including mapping, build, testing, and release work.<\/li>\n
- Review requirements and change requests to make sure the design continues to meet business and technical needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
What you need<\/h3>\n\n- Substantial experience as a solution architect delivering large-scale distributed data solutions in complex, multi-vendor change environments.<\/li>\n
- Deep knowledge of distributed data platforms, especially Cloudera CDH\/CDP or similar technologies, across both on-premises and cloud environments.<\/li>\n
- Experience handling large datasets, streaming data, and unstructured data sources.<\/li>\n
- Practical exposure to technologies such as Cassandra, HBase, Kafka, and Spark.<\/li>\n
- Strong ETL and data pipeline experience, particularly with modern big data tooling such as Airflow and NiFi, or equivalent tools.<\/li>\n
- Programming ability in at least one of Java, Python, or Scala.<\/li>\n
- Understanding of modern engineering methods and technologies.<\/li>\n
- Good grounding in data architecture principles.<\/li>\n
- A continuous-improvement mindset and an appetite for innovation.<\/li>\n
- Financial services experience would be an advantage.<\/li>\n
- Broad experience across complex enterprise IT environments, with the ability to contribute quickly and effectively.<\/li>\n
- The ability to work independently and take responsibility for complex data delivery work.<\/li>\n
- Experience or familiarity with APIs, integration, streaming, and change data capture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
