This role sits within Google\u00e2\u0080\u0099s Data Center Engineering and Technical Infrastructure organization, where the team is responsible for the physical design and ongoing evolution of the company\u00e2\u0080\u0099s data centers. The work is highly technical and centered on control and monitoring systems that support mission-critical facilities. The team approaches its work with a research-and-development mindset, testing ideas, refining them, and then implementing improvements that can have a major effect on efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance.<\/p>\n

In this position, you would act as a technical specialist for data center controls, helping shape how monitoring and control systems are designed, deployed, validated, and supported across the life of a project. The role calls for someone who can work through complex and sometimes ambiguous problems, make sound decisions, influence a range of stakeholders, and translate technical expertise into practical improvements for facilities operations.<\/p>\n

What you will do<\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Own the design, rollout, and troubleshooting of monitoring systems from the earliest concept stage through detailed engineering, procurement, installation, and continuing operational support.<\/li>\n
  • Create and update the technical methods used to handle operational data from critical field systems, identify patterns and trends in that data, and revise control and monitoring requirements when the design needs to change.<\/li>\n
  • Draft statements of work and coordinate with system integrators so the controls scope is delivered successfully and on schedule.<\/li>\n
  • Build automated testing approaches, simulate control logic, and configure secure network environments so system behavior can be checked safely and reliably.<\/li>\n
  • Work directly with construction teams and Data Center Operations teams to remove blockers in the field and solve important building management system problems.<\/li>\n
  • Advise on infrastructure improvements, help ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, and communicate recommendations to senior leaders while supporting implementation with facilities technicians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    What you need<\/h3>\n
      \n
    • A bachelor\u00e2\u0080\u0099s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience at a similar level.<\/li>\n
    • Ten or more years of experience designing and operating critical control systems.<\/li>\n
    • Ten or more years of experience working in mission-critical facilities.<\/li>\n
    • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of outcomes, make decisions, work through unclear problems, and influence others.<\/li>\n
    • Experience preferred in bidding, designing, operating, and commissioning PLC\/SCADA systems, including instrumentation, input\/output interfaces, controller programming, client\/server HMIs, and historians.<\/li>\n
    • Preferred experience with the design, operation, and commissioning of mission-critical electrical and life safety systems, as well as mechanical systems.<\/li>\n
    • Working knowledge of data center and utility infrastructure systems and the relevant compliance requirements, codes, regulations, and standards.<\/li>\n
    • Knowledge of data center mechanical or electrical infrastructure, especially in relation to mission-critical mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems during design, operations, and commissioning.<\/li>\n
    • Strong English proficiency, since Google states that English is required for all roles unless the posting says otherwise.<\/li>\n
