Senior Software Engineer, Proactive Security Overview

Company Name Deliveroo
Job Role Senior Software Engineer, Proactive Security
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

This London-based senior engineering role sits within Deliveroo’s Security Engineering organisation and focuses on proactive security. The team’s mission is to create secure-by-default pathways that help the business build and operate a safe, dependable, and resilient delivery network. The position is part of a collaborative global security group spanning Europe and North America, and it reports to the European Senior Manager for Security Engineering in London.

The work is centered on designing, building, and running security services across Deliveroo’s product and cloud security domains. The role is intended for someone who can take ownership of important technical areas, shape the direction of the work, and help raise the bar for operational quality, engineering standards, and secure development practices across the company.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and support core security products and services that operate at global scale, such as remote access management, secret management, tokenization, encryption, knowledge-graph-based security capabilities, and access control.
  • Work closely with teams across core infrastructure, product engineering, legal, security, and external vendors to create secure-by-default workflows and practical “paved paths” that make it easier for teams to build securely.
  • Own the technical strategy and roadmap for the area you are responsible for, including deciding priorities and guiding how the work evolves over time.
  • Maintain strong operational standards for security services, with a focus on reliability, discipline, and service quality so that critical systems experience little to no downtime.
  • Join the on-call rotation and respond to incidents or alerts with urgency, care, and a structured approach.
  • Manage security feature requests and improvements throughout the full delivery lifecycle, from initial triage and validation through design, testing, and implementation.
  • Help improve engineering practices and delivery speed by influencing standards and making effective use of modern tooling, including AI and large language models where appropriate.
  • Coach and mentor engineers earlier in their careers, while setting clear expectations for engineering quality and operational excellence.
  • Investigate complex technical problems, identify root causes, and contribute to durable fixes for systemic issues.
  • Review design documents and communicate clearly with colleagues in infrastructure, security, and engineering about cloud and platform decisions.

What the team is looking for

  • A proven record of strengthening infrastructure security within an organisation.
  • Broad experience working across infrastructure and security in large, production-grade environments.
  • Strong distributed systems and platform engineering experience, with programming ability in languages such as Java, Scala, Kotlin, Go, or Python.
  • Practical experience using infrastructure-as-code tools, especially Terraform.
  • Deep familiarity with AWS and cloud infrastructure management.
  • Ability to tackle complex, cross-cutting technical problems with thoughtful and inventive solutions.
  • Strong analytical and investigative capability, including hands-on experience leading root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to discuss and review technical design with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Comfort making decisions and exercising judgment independently within the scope of the role, with minimal day-to-day oversight.
  • Experience level consistent with a senior engineer who can lead technical direction, influence others, and mentor teammates.
  • Ability to work in London on a hybrid basis, with three days per week in the office.
