| Location | London |
This role sits within AWSâs UK Central Government, Defence and National Security organisation and is focused on making sure senior leaders have the structure, discipline, insight, and follow-through they need to deliver effectively. The position is embedded in the leadership team and acts as the operational backbone for the business, helping ensure that the team works to the cadence, governance, and quality standards expected across the wider UK Government, International Organisations, and Public Sector organisation.
You will work closely with the UKGI PS Business Manager and Field Sales Operations to execute the operating rhythm established for the wider organisation. Rather than creating the framework from scratch, you will make sure the Central Government, Defence and National Security business delivers against it consistently, on time, and to the required standard. The role combines operational rigour, analytical thinking, cross-functional coordination, and a strong appetite for improvement, including the use of AI and automation to remove manual work.
What you will do
- Run the business cadence for the UKGI PS environment by planning and facilitating weekly, monthly, and quarterly reviews that create accountability and support decision-making.
- Make sure meetings have a clear purpose, the right preparation, and tracked outcomes so actions are completed rather than left open-ended.
- Support the team in meeting the deadlines and requirements set by the wider organisation, ensuring deliverables are aligned with UKGI PS expectations.
- Prepare and coordinate operating plan submissions, business review inputs, governance materials, and financial budget outputs so they meet the required standards, formats, and timelines.
- Act as the central point for incoming requests and ensure that responses and submissions from the business are complete, accurate, and timely.
- Apply measurement frameworks, standard operating procedures, and best practices from the UKGI PS level, adapting them where needed for the specific context of the Central Government, Defence and National Security business.
- Monitor whether strategic initiatives are achieving the intended outcomes and use the results to improve how the team works over time.
- Track commitments, actions, and escalations so that leadership decisions are translated into clear ownership, deadlines, and follow-up.
- Support the operating plan process by gathering team inputs such as headcount plans, investment data, strategic priorities, and business cases for growth.
- Manage the day-to-day budget for the business area, keeping an eye on spend, ensuring it matches priorities, and escalating risks or underspend when needed.
- Look for repetitive or inefficient parts of the operating rhythm and introduce AI-enabled or automated solutions that reduce manual effort and improve speed and quality.
- Prototype new workflows and encourage their use across the team, including action tracking, data synthesis, and preparation for reviews.
- Coordinate engagement events, leadership offsites, customer showcases, and other team forums that support the wider operating rhythm.
- Keep information moving between the leadership team, field sales operations, finance, and specialist functions so that nothing important is missed and leaders have the context they need.
- Work across commercial, partner, and specialist teams to make sure strategic initiatives are aligned and mutually reinforcing.
- Turn data into useful leadership insight by highlighting the most important issues, framing trade-offs clearly, and helping reviews lead to action.
- Help solve complex operational problems and build better processes where none currently exist, with a focus on continuous improvement and practical execution.
What a typical day may involve
Your day could begin by reviewing the output of an AI agent you introduced the previous week, checking which actions it captured from leadership meetings and refining the workflow where needed. Later, you might pull together material for a quarterly business review, combining performance data with the key topics leadership needs to debate and making sure the pack meets the required standards and deadlines.
After that, you may join a governance review to walk through strategic commitments and highlight items that are ahead of plan, on track, or slipping. You could then switch to operating plan work, validating numbers and sharpening the narrative before Finance and Business Operations need the inputs.
On other days, you may spend more time in data analysis, building insight for a critical decision, implementing a measurement framework, or scoping an automation that could save the team significant time each week. You may also coordinate an all-team event, prepare for a customer showcase, or respond to a fast-turnaround request from senior leadership. The common thread is making sure the Central Government, Defence and National Security teams have what they need to deliver and that their work meets the standards expected by the wider organisation.
About the team
The team supports AWS customers across UK Central Government, Defence and National Security. Its mission is to help public sector organisations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland adopt cloud and AI so they can modernise services and improve how citizens are served.
The customer base includes ministerial and non-ministerial departments, armâs length bodies, state-owned and state-operated transport organisations such as airports and seaports, organisations in the defence and intelligence space, and the devolved administrations of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
You will be embedded in the team and work closely with the leadership group. Day to day, you will interact with account managers, partner managers, solutions architects, finance, marketing, HR, and public policy colleagues. You will also work with the UKGI PS Front Office, which defines the standards and frameworks you will implement, and you will help keep the business aligned with the wider UKGI PS organisation.
The team describes itself as fast-moving, open to change, and expects people to bring both discipline and ideas. The work you do will directly support the teamâs ability to help customers move faster and more effectively.

- Comfort operating in a role that requires rigour, systems thinking, and a willingness to fix messy processes.
