Debugger Software Engineer Overview

Arm is hiring a software engineer to join its debugger engineering group in Manchester. The team builds debugging tools that help Arm’s partners create advanced software for embedded devices used across mobile, gaming, Android, Linux, machine learning, and enterprise environments. These tools are an important part of the silicon development ecosystem and support the technologies behind the AI revolution.

What you will do

• Work in an Agile team developing debugging software written in Java and C++.
• Participate in the full delivery cycle for new features, starting with requirement clarification alongside technical managers and continuing through design, implementation, and deployment.
• Build new capabilities for Arm’s debugging product set, including Arm Debugger in Development Studio.
• Develop firmware for the DSTREAM family of high-performance debug and trace probes.
• Collaborate closely with other engineers to deliver reliable, high-quality software.
• Contribute to tools that support embedded development workflows used by Arm’s customers and partners.

What Arm is looking for

• Hands-on programming experience with Java and/or C++.
• Strong ability to reason abstractly and to identify the key ideas within complex technical problems.
• Good knowledge of algorithms and data structures.
• Experience writing Python scripts and using the Linux command line.
• A self-starting attitude and the confidence to take initiative.
• Experience in embedded software development would be an advantage.
• Familiarity with embedded debugging tools such as Arm Development Studio or Keil MDK, together with JTAG or SWD debug probes, would be helpful.
• Experience using Visual Studio Code would be useful.
• Background with build automation tools such as Maven would be beneficial.
• Experience developing tests with continuous integration tools such as Jenkins or Robot would be a plus.

Working style and location

This role follows a hybrid working model. You can divide your time between working from home and working from Arm’s office in central Manchester, close to the city centre.

• Annual salary range: £55,300 to £74,800.

Visa sponsorship
