Military Area Manager, LCY3 Overview

Company Name Amazon
Job Role Military Area Manager, LCY3
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Rest of UK

This position is designed for people with military backgrounds, as well as military spouses and children who want to move into private-sector work. Amazon’s military recruiting team can talk through the many opportunities available across the business. The role sits within Amazon’s Customer Fulfilment and Operations environment, where former military employees are already contributing to innovation and customer experience at scale.

As an Area/Shift Manager, you will lead a large and varied team and help ensure your part of the operation keeps up with demand. The job is practical and fast-moving, giving you direct exposure to the complexity of running a global operation and to the systems and routines that keep everything working smoothly. You will be responsible for putting your team’s approach into action to improve productivity, while also working closely with colleagues to solve problems and respond to changing operational needs. Because the work is varied, each day brings different priorities and challenges.

What the role involves

  • Creating and maintaining a strong culture focused on safety and wellbeing.
  • Reviewing operational performance, identifying issues, and putting corrective actions in place so quality and productivity remain high and business goals are met across every shift.
  • Leading a team while also taking care of administrative responsibilities and helping to build a supportive, high-performing team culture.
  • Looking at performance trends and recommending improvements that make work more efficient and improve the customer experience.
  • Working with other managers to bring shift processes into line and make operations more consistent.
  • Handling the day-to-day demands of the site, including team management, routine operational tasks, escalations, improvement projects, and contingency planning on a larger scale.
  • Working on-site at one of Amazon’s operational locations and taking shifts as part of the role.
  • Keeping safety standards high across the team and site while also monitoring and improving process efficiency.

About the operations environment

Customer Fulfilment is the part of Amazon where the company’s operations began. It has grown from a small bookselling operation into a large global network that processes more than 1.5 million orders each day. This team forms the foundation of the business and supports Amazon’s expansion into new regions and services. Fulfilment Centres are a key part of that network and are sometimes described as the first stage in the journey of an Amazon package. These sites manage inventory and support fast delivery around the clock. The environment brings together people with a wide range of skills, including those working with physical goods and those using data to support decision-making across the business.

What Amazon is looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, in business, operations, logistics, supply chain, or a related area.
  • Experience collaborating effectively across functions and building strong working relationships with people at all levels of an organization.
  • Experience managing people, including motivating teams and shaping behavior.
  • Experience using problem-solving techniques and root-cause analysis.
  • Ability to handle complex work quickly with little direction and to respond promptly when urgent situations arise.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts and schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Preferred background in a distribution center, logistics, or manufacturing setting.
  • Military experience, or being a military spouse or child, is the intended background for this opportunity, although the role is positioned as a route into private-sector work more broadly.
