This is a senior leadership opportunity within AWS for someone who combines deep technical credibility with strong people leadership and customer-facing influence. The role sits at the intersection of customer outcomes, specialist technical expertise, and organisational scale, and it is designed for a leader who can shape how AWS helps customers adopt cloud services across areas such as data, migrations, and security. The position is highly visible and focused on building a high-performing specialist architecture function that strengthens AWS’s reputation as a trusted technical partner in the UKI market.
In this role, you would lead a team of Specialist Solutions Architects covering multiple technical domains. You would not be a manager who stays behind the scenes; instead, you would remain technically engaged and continue working directly with customers, setting the standard for the team through your own depth and customer interaction. A major part of the job is to help define the specialist strategy for the region, influence where investment should go, and convert signals from customers and the field into practical action. The role also requires close collaboration with other leaders and teams so that specialist efforts are aligned with business priorities and customer demand.
What you would do
- Build, lead, hire, coach, and retain a strong team of Specialist Solutions Architects working across several technical areas, while continuing to stay technically involved and customer-facing yourself.
- Partner strategically with the Head of Specialists for the UKI region to jointly shape the specialist direction, decide investment priorities, and turn feedback from customers and field teams into action.
- Lead a customer-facing specialist organisation that earns the confidence of senior stakeholders across important UKI industries, including financial services, retail, media, and the public sector, by understanding their constraints and designing architectures that help them move faster.
- Define and improve the team’s operating model, including capability-building activities, customer advisory work, and thought leadership, as well as the repeatable mechanisms that let the team scale its influence across the wider field and partner network.
- Create and drive high-impact technical content, structured customer feedback processes, and measurable success indicators that clearly show the team’s business value and technical strength.
- Work in close coordination with go-to-market leadership, enablement and TFC partners, service teams, and regional Solutions Architecture leadership to ensure specialist investment stays tightly connected to customer needs and business goals.
- Keep your own technical depth current and continue engaging directly with customers so you can model the expectations you set for the team and stay close to real-world technical challenges.
What the role is looking for
- Experience managing technical, enterprise customer-facing teams or having held a comparable leadership role.
- Experience designing and operating solutions on a cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Oracle Cloud.
- Experience delivering cloud implementations, including migration and modernisation programmes or similar transformation work.
- Strong ability to work with senior customers and internal stakeholders in a role that combines technical expertise, leadership, and strategic judgement.
- A background in modern data platform architecture is especially desirable.
