Technical Project Manager ASIC Design Overview

Company Name IC Resources Recruitment
Job Role Technical Project Manager ASIC Design
Qualifications Not Specified
Category Engineering Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Cambridge

This opportunity is aimed at someone who understands the realities of semiconductor programme delivery and wants to work in a compact, technically strong environment. The position sits within a Cambridge-based ASIC design business that is delivering commercial chip projects and is looking for a project leader who can bring structure, delivery discipline, and commercial awareness without imposing unnecessary bureaucracy.

The company is a growing semiconductor design organisation with a small team of roughly seven people spanning design, test, and business development. At present, the business is running one to two ASIC programmes and needs someone who can help coordinate those efforts as the company scales. The role is well suited to a candidate who has hands-on experience with chip-related projects and prefers a practical, collaborative setting over a large corporate structure.

What the role involves

  • Taking responsibility for ASIC development programmes from the stage where requirements are being defined through to the point where the project is ready for tape-out.
  • Keeping design and test contributors aligned by coordinating schedules across a small but highly technical team.
  • Managing project scope, risks, milestones, and dependencies so delivery stays on track in a lean business environment.
  • Supporting the creation of requirements, technical specifications, and block-level plans to give the programme clear structure.
  • Putting in place project management methods that are sensible, practical, and cost-effective for a small company.
  • Helping the business maintain momentum on current ASIC work while it prepares for further growth.

What the employer is looking for

  • Previous experience leading commercial ASIC, electronic design, or FPGA projects.
  • An engineering background with a solid understanding of chip development workflows and the typical challenges involved.
  • Enough semiconductor project experience to recognise and manage the common pitfalls of ASIC delivery, even if you have not worked as a design engineer.
  • Confidence working in a small, less formal organisation where processes are lighter and the pace is more hands-on.
  • Ability to operate effectively without relying on heavy project management systems or rigid corporate procedures.
  • A structured, pragmatic, and commercially aware approach to getting projects delivered.
  • Suitability for someone who already has solid experience in semiconductor project management rather than someone entering the field for the first time.
  • Willingness to be based in Cambridge with at least some time spent on site.
  • Openness to part-time or fractional working arrangements.

Working style and future opportunity

The position is based in Cambridge and requires at least partial on-site attendance. The employer is also open to part-time or fractional engagement, which may suit candidates seeking a more flexible arrangement. This is a chance to join at an important stage in the company’s development, with expected growth over the next two years.

As the business expands, there is potential for the remit to grow beyond project coordination into broader operational leadership. For the right person, the role offers the opportunity to influence how projects are run within an agile organisation that combines technical depth with a lean operating model.
