This opportunity is for a mechanical engineer to join a fast-moving engineering group working on advanced, high-precision technologies for demanding space applications. The position is based in Cambridgeshire, England and comes with a competitive salary and benefits package.

What you will do

• Support the development of sophisticated mechanical systems and technologies used in space-focused applications.
• Design precision mechanical components and assemblies for cutting-edge space hardware.
• Contribute throughout the full product journey, from early concept development and engineering analysis through testing, validation, and release into production.
• Work closely with engineers from multiple disciplines to create solutions that are both technically sound and practical to manufacture.
• Help deliver robust mechanical designs that can operate reliably in highly demanding environments.

What the employer is looking for

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous mechanical design engineering experience gained in a high-precision or advanced engineering setting.
• Strong CAD skills, including the ability to produce detailed mechanical designs and manufacturing documentation.
• Experience applying finite element analysis and/or hand calculations to inform engineering decisions.
• SolidWorks and ANSYS experience is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of design for manufacture, particularly for precision metal parts, CNC machining, and material selection.
• Proven ability to create manufacturing-ready drawings and apply tolerancing in line with ISO BS 8888 and GD&T requirements.
• Experience with opto-mechanical systems or other precision assemblies would be especially valuable, particularly where alignment accuracy and thermal behaviour are important.
