This role sits within a fast-growing wireless technology company in Cambridge that is working on a new generation of fixed wireless access products. The business is operating in a highly agile, start-up-style research and development environment and is looking for an Embedded Linux Engineer to take an important role in the creation, tuning, and ongoing support of Linux-based embedded platforms used in its latest systems.

The position is based on a hybrid working model in Cambridge, England, and offers a salary in the range of £70,000 to £75,000. The successful candidate will join a team that is moving quickly from development into deployment, with the opportunity to influence platform software across the full product lifecycle.

What you will be doing

  • Building and improving embedded Linux software for the company’s next-generation wireless platform.
  • Working on low-level software components, including board support packages and related embedded platform layers.
  • Helping to optimise Linux-based systems so they perform well as products move toward release and deployment.
  • Partnering closely with hardware, systems, and networking colleagues to deliver complete platform solutions.
  • Investigating and resolving issues at system level, especially those involving Linux networking and embedded platform behaviour.
  • Contributing to a development environment where requirements can evolve quickly and priorities may shift as the product matures.

What the employer is looking for

  • Strong professional experience developing embedded software in C and C++.
  • Substantial hands-on experience with embedded Linux, including kernel-level work and BSP development.
  • Good understanding of Linux networking and practical system debugging methods.
  • Experience using Yocto to build, configure, and customise embedded Linux distributions.
  • Confidence working across fast-moving projects where the scope may change as the team iterates.
  • Ideally, experience with high-performance networking or low-latency networking systems.

The role is part of a growing engineering team focused on advanced wireless technology. It is suited to someone who enjoys working across software, platform integration, and performance optimisation in a collaborative environment that spans multiple technical disciplines.
