Capgemini Invent is looking for an experienced Managing Consultant or Senior Manager to join its Energy Transition & Utilities practice, specifically within the Energy Markets, Regulation, and Systems Operations area. This is a senior consulting role focused on helping shape and deliver major advisory, transformation, and technical change work across the energy sector. The team works with clients across energy networks, retail, central markets, water, and nuclear, and the business is seeing strong demand driven by sector investment and the firm’s position in the market.

The role sits within the Central Markets sub-sector and is intended for someone who brings hands-on knowledge of Great Britain energy market systems and regulation. The successful candidate will use that background to guide complex technical and regulatory change across organisations and industry participants, while also contributing to broader market and whole-system transformation. The work combines sector expertise, consulting leadership, digital understanding, and the ability to translate policy and regulation into practical delivery.

What you will do

  • Lead the design, review, and assessment of technical changes affecting central energy market systems.
  • Take responsibility for implementing industry changes from a central code body perspective, making sure the right parties are involved and coordinated throughout the process.
  • Provide credible advice to senior clients and industry stakeholders on the technical elements of regulation and the systems that support it.
  • Convert policy, regulatory, market, and technical developments into practical delivery approaches that address real industry challenges.
  • Run engagement, training, and support activities for industry participants and senior stakeholders.
  • Help shape and deliver strategies that improve outcomes for energy consumers and the wider energy system.
  • Lead continuous improvement activity across services and delivery processes.
  • Manage complex workstreams and multidisciplinary teams, remaining accountable for quality, outcomes, and delivery in uncertain or ambiguous settings.
  • Contribute to wider Energy Transition & Utilities priorities by building client relationships, supporting proposals, helping generate revenue, and developing people and practice capability.

What the team is looking for

  • Deep knowledge of GB energy market regulation, including specialist understanding of industry systems and the ability to interpret regulatory and policy change into practical implications for organisations and programmes.
  • Evidence of experience in energy system operations, including how the physical system works, how data flows through it, and the agreements that underpin it; this should have been gained through work with transmission operators, system operators, distribution operators, or significant delivery partners to those organisations.
  • Experience in central markets, gained through work with or for organisations across the regulated energy system such as government, regulators, system operators, code and market bodies, energy suppliers, or network operators.
  • Leadership and management consulting skills, including the ability to guide complex technical change through ambiguity.
  • Working knowledge of modern architecture frameworks and technologies.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with senior clients and to identify and resolve issues and problems.
  • Experience shaping and leading complex change programmes and workstreams.
  • Ability to define and oversee digital technology requirements.
  • Experience improving operations and delivery performance.
  • Capability to lead industry change and senior stakeholder engagement across complex, multi-party environments.
  • Experience leading teams of different sizes, coordinating multiple workstreams, collaborating across organisational boundaries, and delivering tangible positive outcomes while also supporting colleague development.
  • Digital and systems experience that enables you to bridge business and industry needs with technology delivery.
  • Experience at a senior level appropriate for a Managing Consultant or Senior Manager position.

Why this role may appeal to you

This opportunity is aimed at people who want to work on one of the defining challenges of the energy transition. Capgemini Invent describes the transition as more than a shift away from carbon-intensive energy; it is also a chance to create a cleaner, more affordable, and more abundant energy system that supports economic growth and social opportunity. The work is positioned as meaningful, combining sector transformation with the chance to improve customer relationships, consumer perception, and talent attraction across the energy industry.

The organisation’s purpose in this area is to help energy and utilities clients realise the economic and societal value of the transition and contribute to a better future. The role therefore suits someone who wants to combine consulting leadership with sector impact and practical delivery.

The company also emphasises its corporate social responsibility agenda, including efforts to reduce its own carbon footprint and improve access to the digital world. It notes that it has been recognised by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the world’s most ethical companies for ten consecutive years.

Location, travel, and working pattern

The role has an office base in London, Manchester, or Glasgow. However, the successful candidate must be fully flexible about assignment location, as the work may require periods away from home at short notice.
