This role sits within the infrastructure engineering function in London, supporting a business that applies scientific and engineering methods to difficult problems in quantitative finance. The team builds and maintains the platforms that help researchers and engineers turn ideas into production systems, and this position is focused on keeping the network layer dependable, fast, secure and resilient.
The company is looking for an experienced network engineer who can take ownership of network and network security services across their full lifecycle. The work is centered on operational excellence, strong observability, automation, and the ability to support a demanding environment where reliability and performance matter. You will be part of a collaborative engineering culture based in London, working alongside people who value deep technical exploration, careful execution and long-term thinking.
What you will do
- Own the operational health of the network and network security stack, including stability, availability, performance and security, and be accountable for it from end to end.
- Build better visibility into the environment by improving telemetry, alerting and performance monitoring so issues can be detected and addressed before they affect users.
- Use tools such as Grafana, Prometheus and ThousandEyes to support proactive monitoring and operational insight.
- Design, implement and maintain datacentre network infrastructure that is scalable and resilient, using Cisco and Arista technologies.
- Push automation into everyday operations by using Python, Ansible, Jinja2 and Git to reduce manual work and improve consistency.
- Support and extend infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD approaches for network provisioning and related workflows.
- Take responsibility for break/fix work and incident response when complex enterprise or campus network issues arise.
- Participate in and help shape incident management practices, including on-call coverage, escalation handling, post-incident reviews and root-cause analysis.
- Deploy and manage WAN customer edge devices, with awareness of MPLS and Segment Routing approaches.
- Contribute to a platform that enables research and engineering teams to move quickly while maintaining high standards of reliability and security.
What the team is looking for
- Strong experience as a network engineer in enterprise or other large-scale environments.
- Evidence that you have applied SRE-style thinking, observability and automation to networking work.
- Practical experience with Python, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Ansible and Jenkins in support of network operations or network engineering.
- Hands-on knowledge of Cisco and Arista switching and routing, plus network security technologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS and segmentation.
- Deep familiarity with Cisco and Arista operating systems and platforms, including IOS, IOS-XR, NX-OS and EOS.
- Strong understanding of key routing and overlay technologies such as BGP, OSPF, EVPN, VXLAN and MPLS.
- Experience using monitoring tools and predictive analysis systems to understand and improve network behaviour.
- Comfort working in environments where incident response, escalation and post-incident learning are part of the job.
- Ability to operate across datacentre, enterprise and campus networking contexts.
- Knowledge of WAN edge deployment and management, especially where MPLS or Segment Routing is involved.
What is offered
- A highly competitive salary package with an annual discretionary bonus.
- Lunch provided through Just Eat for Business and access to a dedicated barista bar.
- 30 days of annual leave.
- Employer pension contributions at 9%.
- An informal dress code and an environment that supports a healthy work/life balance.
- Private healthcare coverage and life assurance.
- A cycle-to-work scheme.
- Monthly company events.
- Relocation support for people moving to London from within the UK or internationally.
- Full coverage of relocation and immigration-related costs for eligible moves.
- A personal concierge service to help arrange travel, find housing and manage the move, plus support for more tailored relocation needs.
