The work is highly cross-functional, with close collaboration across go-to-market, product, and marketing teams to sharpen the companyâs message, sales approach, and market positioning for retail buyers.
What you will do
- Develop new retail business and help drive revenue growth for Anthropic in the sector.
- Own the entire sales journey from initial outbound prospecting through negotiation and final close.
- Work through complex retail account structures to identify the right stakeholders, explain Anthropicâs value, and help customers succeed with the companyâs products.
- Create and execute sales plans that reflect retail procurement cycles, budgeting processes, and buying behavior, with the aim of consistently achieving or exceeding quota.
- Study the retail market, including trends and competitive dynamics, and convert that insight into targeted campaigns and account strategies.
- Find and pursue new use cases in merchandising, e-commerce, and store operations to expand Anthropicâs footprint within retail accounts.

- Navigate multi-layered stakeholder groups, including executives, administrators, IT teams, and procurement functions, to build alignment and move deals forward.
- Gather customer feedback and market intelligence to influence product direction and ensure the roadmap reflects retail needs.
- Continuously improve the retail sales motion by updating playbooks, templates, and best practices, and by identifying process changes that improve productivity and consistency.
What the company is looking for
- At least eight years of B2B sales experience, ideally in SaaS, API products, or other emerging technologies.
- A proven record of managing long, complex sales cycles in retail and closing strategic deals by balancing technical requirements with retail business needs.
- Strong experience working through retail organizational structures and procurement processes while building consensus among executives, administrators, and IT stakeholders.
- Extensive background negotiating complex agreements within retail procurement frameworks and policies.
- Demonstrated success in exceeding revenue targets through effective pipeline management and disciplined sales execution.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to speak credibly to merchandisers, category managers, and senior executives.
- Deep understanding of retail buying cycles, decision-making processes, and the pain points that shape purchasing decisions.
- A strategic, analytical approach combined with creative and practical execution to identify and win opportunities.
- Interest in or experience with advanced AI systems and their real-world applications.
- A strong belief that frontier AI should be developed safely and ethically, including for retail use cases.
- A bachelorâs degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Relevant study area, or equivalent knowledge gained through coursework, training, or professional experience.
- The posting notes that the exact experience level should match the internal level for the role, rather than giving a separate fixed requirement beyond the senior sales background described above.
Compensation and perks
- The annual on-target earnings range is £280,000 to £330,000 GBP.
- For this sales role, the stated range includes both base salary and the target commission or bonus component.
- Anthropic offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
- Employees may receive optional equity donation matching.
- The company provides generous vacation time and parental leave.
- Flexible working hours are part of the package.
- There is a collaborative office environment designed to support in-person teamwork.
- Where applicable, Anthropic will make visa sponsorship efforts and can involve an immigration lawyer if an offer is extended.
Working arrangement
The role follows a hybrid model. Staff are expected to spend at least a quarter of their time in an office, and some positions may require more frequent office attendance. The application also asks whether candidates are open to working in person in one of the offices 25% of the time and whether relocation would be possible if needed.
Application details
Applicants are asked to submit the standard application materials, including contact information, a resume or LinkedIn profile, and responses to several screening questions. These include why the candidate wants to work at Anthropic, whether they need visa sponsorship now or in the future, whether they can work in person at least 25% of the time, their earliest start date, any timing constraints, confirmation that they understand Anthropicâs AI usage guidelines for applicants, any additional information or cover letter, whether they are open to relocation, their intended work address, and whether they have interviewed with Anthropic before.
Anthropic also emphasizes that applicants should be cautious about scams: recruiters use @anthropic.com email addresses, may sometimes work through vetted agencies that clearly identify themselves, and will not ask for money, fees, or banking details before the first day. If there is any doubt about a message, candidates are directed to verify openings through Anthropicâs careers site.
