Capgemini Invent is looking for an experienced Managing Consultant or Senior Manager to join its Energy Transition & Utilities practice, with a focus on energy markets, regulation, and systems operations. The team works with clients facing major change across the energy sector, combining strategic thinking, creativity, scientific rigour, and technology-enabled delivery to help solve complex transformation challenges. This role sits within the Central Markets area of the practice and is intended for someone who can help shape and lead advisory, consulting, and transformation work at scale.
The wider Energy Transition & Utilities practice supports organisations across energy networks, energy retail, central markets, water, and nuclear. Demand for the teamâs services is growing because of major investment across the sector and Capgemini Inventâs position in the market. The successful candidate will bring experience from Great Britain energy markets and will use that background to influence technical and regulatory change across organisations and industry participants, helping drive broader market and whole-system transformation.
What you will do
- Lead the design and evaluation of technical changes affecting central energy market systems.
- Oversee the delivery of industry change from a central code body perspective, ensuring coordination across all affected parties.
- Provide senior-level advice to clients and stakeholders on the technical aspects of regulation and the systems that support it.
- Convert policy, regulatory, market, and technical developments into practical delivery approaches and workable solutions.
- Run engagement, training, and support activities for industry participants and senior stakeholders.
- Help shape and implement strategies that improve outcomes for energy consumers and the wider energy system.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across services and delivery processes.
- Manage complex workstreams and multidisciplinary teams, maintaining accountability for quality, outcomes, and delivery in ambiguous environments.
- Contribute to wider ET&U initiatives by building client relationships, supporting proposals, and helping generate revenue.
- Support the development of colleagues and the broader practice.
What the team is looking for
- Strong expertise in Great Britain energy market regulation, including the ability to interpret regulatory and policy developments and explain what they mean in practice for organisations and programmes.
- Deep understanding of energy system operations, including the physical system, the data that moves through it, and the agreements that underpin it, ideally gained through work with transmission operators, system operators, distribution network operators, distribution system operators, or major delivery partners to those organisations.
- Experience in central markets, gained through work with or for organisations across the regulated energy system, such as government, regulators, system operators, code and market bodies, energy suppliers, and network operators.
- Senior consulting and leadership capability, including the ability to lead complex technical change in uncertain conditions.
- Familiarity with modern architecture frameworks and technologies.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with senior clients and to identify and resolve issues effectively.
- Experience leading major change programmes and workstreams.
- Ability to shape and oversee digital technology requirements.
- Track record of improving operations and delivery performance.
- Experience leading industry change and senior stakeholder engagement in complex, multi-party settings.
- Ability to lead teams of different sizes, coordinate several workstreams, work across organisational boundaries, and deliver positive outcomes while helping colleagues grow.
- Digital and systems experience, with the ability to bridge business, industry, and technology concerns.
About the role and working environment
This is a role for someone who can operate at a senior level and bring together business understanding, industry knowledge, and technology awareness. Capgemini notes that other parts of the business focus heavily on technology delivery, so the ideal candidate should be able to connect strategic and industry issues with technical implementation. The position is based from London, Manchester, or Glasgow, but the successful applicant must be fully flexible about assignment location because work may involve time away from home at short notice.
Capgemini says it is committed to inclusion and to creating an environment where people can bring their whole selves to work. The company also aims to support a healthy work-life balance and has embedded hybrid working across the organisation. Flexible working arrangements are available to all UK employees. Employee wellbeing is supported through trained Mental Health Champions and wellbeing apps such as Thrive and Peppy.
The company is also a Disability Confident Employer at Level 2. As part of its inclusive recruitment approach, it will offer an interview to candidates who declare a disability and meet the minimum essential criteria, provided they opt in during the application process.
Capgemini also highlights its broader social responsibility agenda, including efforts to reduce its own carbon footprint and improve access to the digital world. The organisation says it is proud to be recognised among the worldâs most ethical companies and emphasises a culture of doing the right thing.
Reward and employment details
- A flexible remuneration package is offered, with benefits that can be selected to suit personal circumstances.
- There is a variable pay element linked to grade, company performance, and individual performance.
- The contract is permanent.
- The role is for experienced professionals.
