| Qualifications | Bachelor’s |
| Category | IT Jobs |
| Job Type | Full Time |
| Location | London |
This role sits within the Mobile Experience crew in the Application Platform tribe and focuses on building and improving the mobile products used by MarineTraffic and Kpler. The work is centred on high-impact consumer applications with a very large audience, and the team is responsible for both the client apps and the backend services that support them. The environment is modern and highly collaborative, with a strong emphasis on AI-assisted development, product thinking, and engineering quality.
What you will do
- Deliver complex, production-ready functionality for the MarineTraffic and Kpler mobile apps using Flutter, Dart, and Mapbox, with a focus on performance, reliability, and a polished user experience.
- Build mobile features that feel native and accessible by applying clean architecture principles and translating mobile platform conventions into well-crafted interfaces.
- Design, extend, and maintain the mobile backend-for-frontend service built with Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL/PostGIS, ensuring it can scale to support the full demand of the mobile applications.
- Take responsibility for code quality across the squad by participating in reviews, strengthening automated testing at unit, integration, and contract levels, improving observability, and helping evolve CI/CD and engineering practices.
- Contribute to product and UX discussions with the Product Manager and Designer, helping shape outcomes and not just implementing predefined requirements.
- Support and improve the AI/LLM tooling used by the team, including tools such as Cursor and Claude Code, so that AI agents can generate code that aligns with the squadâs standards.
- Mentor fellow engineers, contribute to the Front-end Chapter, and help internal business teams gain more autonomy within their own functional areas as part of the wider platformisation strategy.
Team and environment
You will join a small, multidisciplinary squad made up of two senior engineers, one mid-level engineer, one engineering manager, one product manager, and one designer. The team works at the forefront of AI-assisted engineering, with deployed code being authored by AI under human orchestration. This is intended for engineers who want to help redefine how software is delivered using advanced tooling and modern practices.
The broader company operates across commodities, energy, and maritime markets, helping clients make better decisions by simplifying complex global trade information and turning it into actionable insight. The organisation has a large international workforce and places strong value on collaboration, customer focus, and practical problem-solving.
What you need
- At least five years of professional experience.
- Proven experience building and shipping consumer mobile applications at scale, ideally products used by more than one million users.
- Strong hands-on experience delivering complex Flutter and Dart applications in production.
- Solid experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and GraphQL API design for services operating at scale.
- Deep understanding of mobile architecture, performance, testing, and observability, together with a strong clean code and clean architecture mindset.
- Good knowledge of Appleâs Human Interface Guidelines and the ability to turn them into accessible, refined mobile experiences.
- Product judgement and experience contributing to product and UX decisions alongside PMs and designers.
- Professional fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Nice-to-have experience
- Background in platform engineering or inner-source environments.
- Experience with GraphQL federation.
- Exposure to geospatial technologies such as Mapbox and PostGIS, or to related tools and systems such as Kafka, Airflow, or GeoServer.
Ways of working and culture
The company describes itself as action-oriented, collaborative, and supportive. It emphasises doing what is needed with purpose, building solutions together, and being approachable and helpful to colleagues and clients. It also states a commitment to fairness, inclusion, and diversity, and says that different perspectives are valued because they lead to better ideas and a stronger understanding of a global customer base.
Applicants are encouraged to apply even if they do not match every requirement, as the company notes that people from underrepresented groups may be less likely to apply unless they meet every criterion. The organisation says it welcomes candidates from different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives and operates as an equal opportunity employer.
