This role sits within Anaplan’s Predictive Intelligence engineering organization, where the team builds the backend systems that support the Syrup platform and the company’s forecasting and predictive offerings. As an associate backend engineer, you will contribute to core services across this stack while developing your Python engineering craft alongside experienced colleagues. You will work closely with backend engineers, data scientists, and platform partners to deliver reliable, well-tested services that support predictive insights at scale.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and data-processing components across the Predictive Intelligence platform.
• Contribute to the systems that support forecasting, scoring, and data processing, with a focus on performance, reliability, and code quality.
• Produce clean Python code that is well structured, maintainable, and covered by tests.
• Collaborate with data scientists and machine learning engineers to operationalize models and support the pipelines that feed and deploy them.
• Take part in code reviews and technical design sessions, using feedback to improve both the product and your own engineering capability.
• Join on-call coverage as you ramp up, helping to monitor services, investigate issues, and restore normal operation when problems arise.
• Work with the wider team to deliver scoped features from initial implementation through release.
• Help uphold engineering best practices across the services and pipelines you contribute to.

What you need

• Commercial experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend development.
• Strong Python ability, including experience delivering production code that is well organized and tested.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL, such as Postgres.
• Some familiarity with data-warehouse technology such as Snowflake is beneficial.
• Exposure to containerized services and at least one major cloud platform, including AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Basic understanding of how AI and machine learning systems are operated in production, including the data pipelines that support them.
• Comfort using Git and working in a collaborative development environment.
• Ability to own a well-defined system or piece of work and deliver against requirements even when there is some ambiguity.
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical subject, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice-to-have experience

• Experience with orchestration tools such as Prefect, Airflow, or dbt.
• Exposure to MLOps tooling such as MLflow, or experience supporting machine learning workloads in production.
• Familiarity with LLM-based or agent-style application patterns and AI service integration.
• Experience operating services on Kubernetes.
• Background in forecasting, demand planning, retail, or supply-chain domains.
