A global semiconductor technology company is looking for a senior-level CPU verification specialist to join its research and development team in Cambridge. The position focuses on validating next-generation processor and system-on-chip designs used in advanced products across areas such as artificial intelligence, mobile devices, and connected IoT systems. The opportunity is aimed at someone who wants to work on complex, cutting-edge CPU development in a high-performing engineering environment.

What the role involves

• Taking ownership of CPU design verification activities and helping ensure that sophisticated processor architectures are fully validated before silicon is produced.
• Translating architectural specifications into practical verification plans, including the definition of tests and coverage objectives.
• Creating robust, reusable verification infrastructure with UVM so that the environment can scale with design complexity.
• Writing and maintaining test benches, assertions, and coverage models that support thorough functional checking.
• Running regression suites, analysing failures, and tracking verification status and progress across the project.
• Working in close partnership with CPU and SoC architects to make sure verification aligns with the intended design behaviour.
• Providing guidance to less experienced engineers where needed, with the possibility of taking on mentoring or technical leadership responsibilities.

What the employer is looking for

• Strong, proven experience in CPU verification.
• Good working knowledge of cache coherence, memory ordering, branch prediction, speculative execution, and MMU behaviour.
• Experience using random instruction sequencing techniques in verification work.
• A solid grasp of UVM and broader verification approaches and methodologies.
• The ability to work effectively on both block-level verification and full-chip verification tasks.
• Experience level consistent with a senior engineer who can contribute independently and collaborate across architecture and verification teams.
